Help with countering single-target night bombing as the Axis

Post by Cones2002 »

I'm currently in a PBEM with someone as the Axis.

Been pretty good and I've been learning a lot.

I'm having one major issue though, he's been using night bombing to hit individual factories with spectacular success.
It only takes 1 bomber group to completely level a factory. I've attached an image as an example.

I'm intercepting his bomber streams with a moderate amount of fighters but cause the raids are so spread out, it's diluting my night fighters.
I was in the process of moving rail flak to this location but it didn't arrive in time as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to house rule this type of bombing if at all possible.

Here is a photo of my rubber factories. Bear in mind we're only on Turn 3 of the campaign

He's hitting these factories with about 200 bombers, so you can imagine the number of raids he's launching per night.

Around 18:00 switch your HQ's to "computer controlled" so that the AI operates your nightfighter interceptors and see if that helps. I'm surprised he is getting this kind of accuracy with night bombing. I assume this is the latest patch?

Also to get rid of that dot-matrix 1970's font, on the "DirectX" tab in your dxwnd settings, under "Emulation" set Renderer to "primary surface" and checkbox "Full Bilinear Filter"

Is it recommended to not manually control night fighters?
I have been cause I didn't trust the AI due to their day interception performance.

And yes, this is with the latest patch. All it's taking is one Lancaster group out of the whole raid to flatten these factories.

We've decided to house rule night bombing factories. Tentative yes on doing it after 1944.

I found that the AI is competent with the micromanagement needed to counter night raids. And it is acceptable gameplay.

One thing about this strategy is that factory damage will repair 2 or 3 times faster than urban damage, so when the weather turns bad or moonlight diminishes your opponent may have wished he concentrated more on terror bombing.

I would be surprised if this is a viable exploit for hitting the factories deeper inside Germany.

Seen your message on Discord but I'll respond here for th forum peeps.

It seems like a fairly viable strategy to me. Especially cause of how quick he put my rubber into critical (Not too sure how much that has an effect on the economy).

But yeah, we house ruled against it just cause of the anti-fun factor it potentially poses.
