Question on German Level Bombers

Post by Gamer64 »

I'm practicing against the AI in preparation for a game against a human Soviet player and I have notice something about the German level bombers.

As the Soviet, I have been able to stack up to 9 level bombers on an AB and bomb away, or at least until I get tired of clicking. I regularly run 40% or more air miles.

However, on turn 1, when the German ABs have double supplies, it seems I only get 3 maybe 4 missions before the bombers stop flying. They only have 20% air miles but the AB is empty of supplies.

Is this a feature of the German AF or am I missing a trick?

Hi '64.

It would appear that they stop flying when the number ready is < 50% of Max in Unit. Can you check this?

AB empty of supplies is a red herring.
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

That appears to be the problem, thank you.

Curiously, its 50% of the max unit size not ready plus damaged. I imagine as the war goes on and they get depleted with few replacements this is a real problem.

I guess I just need to keep the damaged number lower somehow. Any suggestions? I would like to get more than 16% air miles. Maybe some political officers assigned to the AB? [;)]

Can't do much to keep the damaged number low. Try to fly them with lots of escorts in airspace that is not heavily contested. Also usually, on turn 1 as the Axis you want to drop the % to fly down to 0 and then increase it on turn 2 to 10-15%.

You can also just go to your air doctrine and reduce percentage required to fly to lower than 50%? [:)]

I am such a noob at this, thanks.

Any clue as to why my JU52s in the south are happy to drop fuel but not those in the north?

We all have to start somewhere.

Your airbases need to be within 5 MP of a railhead to be able to deliver fuel/supplies. Also check the range.

Cheers!

And check ready aircraft number, a lot of them start Barbarossa in reserve (presumably not serviced after Crete yet).
