Empty air bases, what to do

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Empty air bases, what to do

Post by loutro »

Axis October 1941

I have moved air units from bases with only a few attached units to other airbases to max out their capacity. Now I have several empty airbases.

My questions are:

1. Should I disband the empty airbases to save manpower considering the upcoming blizzard and for next year?

2. Should I move them well back behind the front line?

3. Does either make a difference

Comments welcome

thanks

Fighters can still intercept reasonably well in inclement weather, and Soviet bombing of your bases is lessened. Level bombers can deliver supplies for their first mission, and Ju-52s can deliver fuel, for example, for your reserve armor formations. In 1942 you can start using adjacent-to-target airbases to avoid the 25-75% penalty for air delivery. See manual and the thread right under this one for details.

Airbases can be used to prevent partisan attacks on key hexes as well. And having more almost never hurts: the number of planes repaired is not just dependent on having sufficient air support. More air support over the required fixed planes faster.

Yes, just like in the real war where airbases were used to prevent partisan attacks. [:D]
