War in the West

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

What about hypothetical NATO vs. WARSAW land battle in the 80's at this scale?

It would have my vote :)

I'm all for War in the West myself. Never cared for War in the East. I'd rather play US, British, Canadian, French, Australian and other allied forces (and colors) than black vs white.

Black v white? Sorry, I don't get your drift here, but the Eastern front dwarves the Western one, how can someone not be interested in it?

Black = German units and White = Russian units.

Dwarf or not I never was or am interested in playing German or Russian units. I've played AH Stalingrad and the outcome is always the same the Russians get monster reinforcements after the first snow and easily wipe the Germans off the map. I see no reason to keep repeating that outcome and process. So you win a battle that was lost in the north, you'll lose two in the south because of it. The West front at least offers up many different options of attack/invasion from Southern France to Bethny Bay to Pas de Calais and real possible outcomes that the Germans could have pushed the Allies back into the sea. The Russian front is nothing more than a line and no other options of attack/invasion than the one presented. The only options are pouring more units into the North or South or Middle.

Interesting point of view, though I don't share it.

Alright, now that WitE is just about in the can. When will work get started on the next release, War in the West?

You got to be kidding![:-]

Interestingly....back in the early PC days, I had a great interest after countless "Second Front/War in Russia" games in aquiring SSI's briefly released "West Front" for PC which was the Western Europe equivilent to said "Second Front" (basically same engine and graphics)

I only managed one half of the grand campaign before losing interest and never returned to it. Problem was.....once the Allies got the foothold on Normandy, the game was pretty much over. All the Germans could do was try to fight as best a retreat as they could. It was rather boring. Kind of like only being able to play Second Front from 8/43 onward. No wonder the game didn't stay on the shelves very long.

Yes the Allies were always much better than the Russians doing things "faster" that's why you grew bored quicker. Once Patton hit the scene it was just a matter of months, not years. [:)]

I would love to see a w War in the West...however i actually think a War in North Africa is badly needed at this time. I look all over and i hardly see any games depicting Rommel's Afrika Korps...Wavell's Operation Compass...which today is the 70th anniversary of the offensive...the Italian Invasion...

I think a War in North Africa would be awesome...How bout it Gary Grigsby?

War in the West (43-45) and War in North Africa are the next two games we will be working on. Eventually plan to link them all (that is the plan anyway).

I will not buy if there's a "full monty" option. [:D]

I'll ask it.  Will there be a user option to adjust production in the linked game?  Perhaps its undecided but is it at least under consideration.  Thanks much.

i think a war in the west and war in north africa would be awesome...however...war in the west should start in 1940 with the invasions of norway and denmark...low countries...france etc etc...

war in africa should start in 1940 with the italian invasion...

and if Mr. Grigsby can combine WITE WITW and WIA into one HUGE game...it would be the LARGEST War in Europe game to date...

Is the 10 miles/hex scale right for the Western Front? One example (from memory): the Battle of the Bulge. The Germans fielded 30 divisions or so on a 50-60 mile front. That represents just six hexes, so pretty cramped with the three unit stacking rule. And the battle itself would be meaningless without including the road net which WITE omits, not unreasonably, for the Russian theatre but in the West was more developed.
