Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Hi !

I' d like to sign some problem about the game as a historian from Hungary, which corrections would improve the historian loyality.

1. North-Transylvania -really correctly- the meaning of the 2nd Wienna decision ( 30/8/1940 ) was deal to Hungary again. Inspite of this, we can read the names of the rivers and towns in romanian language ( Cluj - Kolozsvár ) . Transylvania was deal to Hungarian Kingdom for more then 1100, and at this time just 20 years to Romania.

2. Voivodina ( the corner of Danube and Tisa ) and the space of Mura river annexed to Hungary too ( after 11/4/41 ) , but in the game these territories - incorrectly - are the part of Yugoslavia.

3. Town " Nyiregyhasa " correctly is " Nyíregyháza " .

4. After then Romania changed over ( 23/8/44 ) the Hungarian Army start to attack at the place of Turda ( Torda ) to occupie South - Transylvania. Inspite of this, the hungarian units couldn't step across the romanian border.

5. I played the campaign of 1944 with the Axis, when Hungary finished the war. It's fourious for me, becouse the hungarian units was batteling until the end of the war. The fact, that Hungary finished the war that time is strange for me too, becouse at this time the Soviet army dint't step to hungarian area at all.

Yes, the Hungarians didn't surrender until the Germans did. Hungary remained in the war until the bitter end, even setting up a "Government in Exile" in Vienna, and troop training centers and supply depots in Germany. There were also many Hungarians manning AA defenses in Germany. Maybe some changes can be implemented eventually.

I am half Hungarian. Growing up near New York City I met a gentleman who claimed to be an ex Hungarian general in WWII at family parties. I asked him why did he fight for the dreadful Naaziis. "We feared the Russians more than we feared the Germans," he responded.

I am also half Finnish. The Finns almost got Churchill to declare war on Russia! But that front is a subject for other threads.

I have not made it far into the game yet, is there a set end date for the Hungarians in the game? My grandfather served in the Hungarian Army during the war and it was made very clear to me by my father how things ended...

Don't think any date triggers for Hungary. Found in rules:

19.1.4.2. HUNGARIAN SURRENDER
Hungary surrenders if Budapest is Soviet controlled. There
is a chance that Hungary will surrender if, after January 1,
1942, either Nyiregyhasa (X39, Y93) or Arad (X36, Y106) are
Soviet controlled. If this condition is met, then a Surrender
Threshold (ST) value is calculated equal to 7 plus 1 for each
German Division in Budapest plus 2 additional points for each
Division that is an Elite SS unit. Once the ST is determined, if
Die (10)>ST, then Hungary surrenders.

As the Hungarians fought on after the capture of Budapest it seems that might a tad premature to surrender at that time... Boy do I need to get into the rules!
