Interesting Supply Trace

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Interesting Supply Trace

Post by brucemo »

I don't whether this is a bug or just something interesting.

The point of the screen shot is that the 20-5 lime motorized unit is shown to be in HQ range, while the 19-6 unit is not.

Both are direct children of the 0-50 HQ outlined in purple. The unit that is in supply is 20 MP from HQ and the one that is not in supply is 20+ MP from HQ. The one that is in supply has 80 morale and the one that is not in supply has 84 morale.

The 33-9 lime Panzer is also shown to be 20 MP from HQ, although it is out of supply due to distance. If it's not obvious, that panzer has broken through lines and there is no connection with friendly territory above the image. All units visible are in supply at the moment.

If the HQ is moved on top of the 22-3 SS Polizei unit the 20-5 motorized goes out of supply and the 19-6 is in supply. If it's move on top of the 19-6 motorized the northern units are in supply although MP to rail is rather huge.

Is it tracing across the lake or something?

Lol this is surely strange and counter intuitive. Probably a bug.

Is the Moto unit withdrawing soon? I dont' know what turn it is so I am asking. Plus why do you have a refit unit next to an enemy?

To my knowledge nothing is in refit. The HQ is selected so the blue ones are in supply and the red one isn't.

I'm almost sure it's tracing over the lake. That's undoubtedly working as design, but it surprised me.

Good theory with the lake.
The hexagons distance only takes the distance "as the crow flies", while the calculation of the movement point length can use a different path.

It's not winter, it's a clear turn in 1942.

It has to be the lake. The panzer unit north of everything else is also 20 MP to HQ.

I'm still a little mystified in that if tracing across an owned swamp to the lake is part of a 20-MP route, the tracing across an owned light woods instead should be less than 20 MP.

The northern motorized unit is withdrawing in 43 turns.
