RE: Special Report South by Anna Ratkevich - (T4-6)
Looking at this game so far, and Kelblau's AAR, you haven't got anything to worry about.

Special Report South by Anna Ratkevich - (T7-12)
Across the Ukraine - Containing PG1
Facing the fortress city of Kiev, the fascists turn south and break through the Dnepr defence.

STAVKA is aghast at the failure of Southern Front to hold the line. S asks for a list of the relevant army commanders. Names are ticked off and he hands the list to me. "Give this to B, he will know what to do."
While S is marking his list, the rest argue. Sh says to fall back quickly, but T and Z argue for an attack. S says "it is time to fight." T is sent south of coordinate the between the two fronts.
First, Southwestern Front inserts itself behind the German lines in a probing attacks.

Once our forces have linked up to break the German communications, forces align themselves for a major attack in the next week.

But the attack is not needed, as fearing our might the fascist beat a retreat back to the river. They are moving slowly. Their petrol is low.

I receive word from B as well. "An example has been made of those commanders." S is pleased.
Developments in the center mean that the southern forces must fall back from Kiev in good order.
Our lines thicken and start to build up entrenchments.

Leading to a new and stable front in the south.

Against which only small advances can be made by the fascists.

STAVKA decide that Southern Front must fall behind the Dnepr in any case.

T is promoted to Marshall for his work in the South. Z is not happy.

This line will not break.
The fascists continue to push across the Dnepr and our forces fall back in good order. Sh has convinced S that we must preserve our strong army for the winter battles to come.

But 10th army is caught out anyway. The closing pocket is broken and LAH is push back in 3 battles and sent routed behind enemy lines.

Sh argues that we must fall back further despite the open pocket. Not all of 10th army will make it out. There are reports that LAH is still broken and not able to join the battle.

Again the panzers try to pocket our troops.

This time they cannot bite deep enough.

And so they try again north and south of the line.

Making only small inroads.

Special Report Northby Anna Ratkevich - (T7-12)
A moving pocket
The fascist move north and west from Pskov, cutting off elements of 7th Independent Army.

The pocket being easily broken.

And divisions move into the gap...

The battle is replayed in the next week, with the pocket again being opened.

And again...

but this time Northern Front closes in...

However, in the next week the fascist manage to reach the coast.

Divisions fall back upon the coast where minimal supplies can be brought in, but to no avail.

T says the loss of these divisions will hurt us, but the panzers are now no nearer to Leningrad by attacking on the diagonal. He predicts they will not make Leningrad before the weather turns .
In the next week the fascists probe further south looking for an opening.

Apologies to all for not further developing the story of Anna as promised. Work has really kicked off recently. I have opted for the abbreviated reports above to catch everyone up. Hopefully there will be more time in the future.

STAVKA Council (T13)
STAVKA Council (T13)
A special council of STAVKA has been called with all senior commanders in attendance. Recon reports have come in and all fascist mobile units facing us in the center have disappeared.
Additional recon is ordered and the following picture develops of German mobile units stood on railways far behind the MLR.

Everyone is at a loss as to what it means. Is their supply so desperate? Are they headed to another front, or even another theater?
In the north our armies stand firm and dig deep. Sh is optimistic Leningrad may hold out.

While in the south the fascist move to the coast to try and find a way through. They have not read their history, or they would know that this is a poor position logistically for a mobile force. Partisans report the railhead is many kilometers away on the other side of the Dnepr.

RE: STAVKA Council (T13)
AGC's panzers won't get anywhere by rail because
1 he doesn't have any north-south lines in Russia so 2 turns on rail minimum.
2 Can't rail much per turn anyway now
They have to walk [8D]

STAVKA Council Continued (T14)
STAVKA Council Continued (T14)
As the council continues to consider the missing fascist mobile units, a recon report from the north arrives:

Could this be the missing units moved to the north? Suddenly fate of Leningrad looks less certain, though everyone breaths a sigh of relief for Moscow, Kursk, Kharkov (pretty much everything...). The situation south of Lake Ilmen looks likely as an avenue of attack and reinforcements are rushed forward.
In the south the fascists continue pushing along the coast. STAVKA feel we have had a lucky break.

Along the entire center commanders are ordered to make spoiling attacks on weak points in the German line. In 5-6 places the fascists are pushed back. Our troops are learning the art of attack.

STAVKA Council Disbanded (T15)
The council disbands so that commanders can return to their troops. It is now clear that the Germans have moved substantial troops north.

In the south, they make one big push along the coast. S orders that we move to cut them off. Will they have enough petrol to fight on to Stalino? We are betting not.

Battle of the Azov Coast
Battle of the Azov Coast (T16/17
Our decision to attack has been borne out by events. The fascist spearhead pulls back.

And 40th Cavalry Army charges in yet again.

But the Germans do not learn lessons. The rains have started yet they remain on the coast.

Marshal T orders a major assault by 33rd Cavalry Army and 38th Mechanised Army. The glorious Red Army reaches the coast. The fascist will be sitting out the rasputitsa without supplies.

not the best of Ideas to send the panzers THAT far south, its hard as it is fixing the rail Line in the center of Ukraine...
End of the rasputitsa (T21)
End of the rasputitsa (T21)
As the muddy season draws to a close I am sent south to visit Marshall T and Southern Front. S wants a first hand account.
T has been striving to keep the Germans contained on the Azov coast. Each day our brave men crawl forward to attack the enemy tanks mired in the mud. They take horrible losses. I ask the Marshall why. "We lose 2 soldiers for every one of their's, it is true, but it keeps him tired and uses up his limited supplies."
T even orders another offensive to expand on the pocket. German screening forces are pushed back but we have little else to show for it.

Finally, as the snow begins to fall T gets the result he has been waiting for.

The people are ecstatic. Hitler's own bodyguard! The best fascism has to offer marches into captivity as the newsreels roll.

I return to Moscow but the celebration is short. S wants a general report on the state of our forces. The highlights are encouraging.
Troops

Loses

Air Loses

Industry

Our morale is also high. 12 Guard Divisions have been created and more are expected soon. Leningrad, Moscow, Kursk, Kharkov and Stalino all stand. Dnipropetrovsk was recently recaptured.

RE: Where are the Germans?
I had an ongoing game with him as well and I have not heard from him in a few weeks.
RE: Where are the Germans?
I guess its time to call this game as the 4 week rule now applies.
Apologies to all of you who followed this AAR. Hopefully I will be back with another.
I would still like to hear that Hermann is ok in RL if anyone knows.
