June turn 51 german moves

The far north is clear. Ground good.

North Moscow. Very heavy air commitment. The noose tightens

I then lineup for a big attack. this could really open up the back side of Moscow and I mean now.

Alas the Russian again put up a fierce defense.

My attention then turned south. The prior turn I had cleared a hex on the north side of the Don.

Seeing a weak counter, I launch major encirclement operation on the north side of the Don.

Here is my attack to make a clear 3 wide crossing of the Don

I then attack the other river crossing near the Sveboda bend.

You can see mid turn my breakthru tanks.

Russian cav and armor is way in the rear leaving middle wide open to roam.

June turn 51 final

Post by BrianG »

Here is the final Boguchar cut off position.

The pocket looks secure.

My thinking, in not splitting the forward armor, was that Russians really need to retreat after this new pocket.

The pocket has no high value targets.

Weather is horrid across the vast steppes.

Only the Euro zone remains clear.

2 more brutal frontal assaults are heaped upon Sebastopol.

2 more Russian wins. If these mountain units survive I think they will be guards soon.

And in a surprise, Bitburg refuses to retreat. Instead he launches his well rested cav and newly formed armor corp and drive deep behind German lead tanks. The pocket holds but now 3 German units are cut off.

panzer, ss mech and regular mech.

Very dangerous move for him. as well unexpected and not what I had hopped for. ( I was looking for a nice tidy retreat)

And now also a weekly cliff hanger for the cut off Germans.

I counter in the mud and am forced into maneuver behind lines so that I take up the empty hexes.

I feed in supply to trapped units which look ok as to supply having been well rested prior to the breakthru turn.

My rr to Boguthar is blocked by Russian zoc or not complete via the south to north route.

t52 june 11 42 weather forecast

Post by BrianG »

Finally, after 11 straight mud turns, the south soviet zone is expecting CLEAR weather.

The rest of Russia and Europe will again be in mud.

If clear, my south soviet offensive, anchored near Rostov, will begin.

Dangerous development in the Boguchar sector. I am guessing next turn will be mud again there so those units will remain isolated but safe from being destroyed? Can any of those trapped unit be destroyed before you get a chance to launch a relieve operation and is there an operation being planned? Your supply in the north should be pretty bad considering the river crossing and all those ZOCs+mud.

nice to have a little suspense.

Early reports come in of massive desperate attacks on the German trapped units (mud).at the back end of turn 52.
And now confirmed: blues skis, solid ground in south soviet zone for turn 53.

How were the losses? That basically means you can extract those units on turn 53. Would be interesting to see their TOE and morale after being isolated for 2 turns, especially of the Panzer Division.

ya that aggressive soviet move could just be feeding some of those tank/cav corps into additional pockets depending on how things work out...and panzer divs even pockets in mud are hard to break without infantry corps or massive amount of soviet infantry divs/units to get the unseen quality of quantity bonus on the attack lol.

Mud

Russians launch heavy attacks against 2 of the 3 surrounded German armor/mech divisions

The 4th panzer divisions hold. 4:1 odds.

The attack was preceded by 2 successful Russian bomber attacks.

The ss mech is just bombed.

The attack on the 25th mech division almost succeeds.

2 ground attacks were launched.

I bring in tank reinforcements for next turn relief.

And in air supply, I do one very large drop. I think the most tons I ever dropped on one hex. approx. 250 tons. For me it was noticeable and 4th panzer became fully supplied: perfect to fight off more mud attacks.
