Turn 155, 1st june 1944

Breakthrough to the baltic sea

Image

Logically, I should withdraw the troops on the Vistula and create a new line on the Oder. But it's not fun. I decide to counterattack and cut the spearhead. It's hopeless but the junction is realized.

Breakthrough was hard to achieve

Kudos! That's exactly what Hitler would have ordered in the same circumstances....maybe not sane, but then again, better than rolling over and dying.

agree ... think at this stage Stef may as well have fun lashing back where he can rather than trying to retreat a hex a turn until the end

Well, I saw the result of this move in Oshawott's AAR. [:(] But I admire Stef for keeping up a tough fight against impossible odds.

why don't you try Pelton's army or army group reserve activation strategy for your last stand? That is something like the corp hq are removed from the chain of command, and for example 9 inf xx(front line)may get reserve activation from 9 inf regts (second line). Example shows 27 CPs used for army. High initiative and morale army ldr (natch).

Oops posted this in the wrong place, it was meant for Stef, no wonder I lose so many games!!
Reserve activation doesn't work anymore at this stage of the work. It's very usefull in 1941/1942 and early 1943.

Once russian army is strong enough it's better to use your Pzd as second line of defence.

Disbanding HQ is an option. It gives a better reserve activation. I did it in previous games. Not in this one

After 3 years of fights STEF78 (Axis) Oshawott (USSR)

Post by STEF78 »

Turn 158, 22th june 1944

Already 3 years of fights. The end is close. SO you will be living the game in real time. It's Oshawott's turn to play his 158th turn.

Another encirclement north of Liegnitz but I succeeded in breaching it. I give up Silesia

Is it possible to bomb the Danzig port facilities into inoperability? I have never tried bombing a big port.

Wo ist Wenck? Wo ist Steiner?

Yeah, it's about that time of the game where we start making Downfall jokes.

Danzig is a level 15 port. It is almost impossible to make this port inoperable. You would have to get the port below level 1 which requires 94% damage plus 3% repair rate.

for shame [;)]

all that effort in the 1740s and 1760s just dismissed in a week (not that you have any real choice)

The agony STEF78 (Axis) Oshawott (USSR)

Post by STEF78 »

Turn 159, 29th june 1944

What should I say?
- several pockets
- breaktrough in western Romania
- situation desperate in western Silesia
- Oder eastern bank cleared

The beast is dying... e-adolf is effectively looking for Steiner, Wenck...

Trying to find a silver lining -- will it take him a while to cut your VP total down to 39?

It looks like he can cut through your army at will, except in mountainous terrain. [:(]
