RE: When the Cold Wind Howls. SparkleyTits(Axis) vs HLYA(Soviet)
Yes apparently some of my soldiers hadn't got the update memo on how to handle prisoners of war so instead of making hiwis they sent them happily off in a couple of Soviet ships!
The real reason though is I came in to the routed units from the N forcing them to rout W and then N up to the closest bloody island instead of coming from the W or SW to move them NE where I could repocket.....

Couple of more items that I like about this patch so far that I will post at 1:54am East coast time. The first is the range function on the planes. I have to admit I bumbled around in the dark on getting this to work and posting this here for any that may not have known like me. Basically, for every one hex out it will be 30 points. Thus if you want the plane to fly only 4 hexes out(radius around the airbase if you will) you would put 120 in the group range for the aircraft(the 4 will auto fill in when you hit return after the 120 input). You will then see 120(4) in the box as seen in this photo. So 5 hexes would be 150(5), 180(6), etc, etc, etc. I hope this helps anyone reading this since I learned the hard way
. I like this function and I believe this came about from a recommendation from Dinglir from our game last year (whom I hope is doing well after his incident) and thank you Morvael for putting this in. Really changes things in the Airwar.

I would like to revisit this because your numbers may be off. I tried an independent test using the 1942 scenario.
I set two clusters of fighter bases and set their intercept range to 30. I then conducted a recon mission and an airbase bombing mission. In neither case did my fighters fly.
I then set the range to 40, and the intercepting fighters flew one hex. The results can be seen below.

Perhaps others can try their own testing, but by my data, the magic number is 40, and not 30.

Could it be the condition is a non-inclusive rather than inclusive one? So 30 or less does not fly but 31 or over does - which would fit?

I tried GR 31 and 39. No planes flew. I tried 79 and intercept would not take place at 2 hexes. That would indicate 40 is the magic number, at least in my test.

I hope you do post some commentary even if you don't make it past 1941.
Defeats are rarely analysed in AARs, especially by good players, which is understandable but it's a shame because there's often more to be learned from them than from a whole string of victories.
