Landbridge?

Hi
I`m still fighting in Burma, the Philippines and China in my WitPAE game vs the AI and begin to prepare for WitE. I read a lot of AARs and all those articles by the grognards of WitE.
One phrase I don`t understand- landbridge. What area is it? The area between Smolensk and Vitebsk? It appears to be right.
Help would be appreciated.

More or less: it is the terrain north of the Dnepr and south of the Dvina. Those are both formidable river obstacles, so the terrain in between with no river barriers is termed the land bridge.
