AA fire

Post by tyronec »

Am a bit puzzled by these combats which all happened in the same hex.

Firstly, there were some 20mm in the same unit. Would have thought U2VS would have been flying low enough. Maybe they all got shot down before they got close enough !

The second and third bombing attacks. Why no AA ? Does AA only give cover for it's own unit (there were two units in the hex) ?
I think it used to give cover to fly over hexes but that seems to have gone too.

The lark, signing its chirping hymn,
Soars high above the clouds;
Meanwhile, the nightingale intones
With sweet, mellifluous sounds.
Enough of Stalin, Freedom for the Ukraine !

Several things to note. Most importantly, the participant interface for air missions are pretty bugged, and sometimes you'll see some, half, none of participants. Sometimes you'll see them from previous battles.

Next, AA does not always commit. This is only empirical observation (but from a lot of manual missions from both sides), but it seems that fly-past seems to have a much higher guarantee of AA commitment. I've been stacking AA in HQ's at the very front line or in Luftlotte HQs one hex east/NE/SE of my airbase stacks.

Finally, AA is just not that effective. Picture: every single mixed FlaK stacked into an army front with basically no change in my ground bombing losses.
