Scenario Wishlist (and Poll)

Post by BletchleyGeek »

I am starting this thread to collect ideas, suggestions and requests regarding adding scenarios (or modifying existing ones) to WiTE. While WiTE is the best computer simulation of the Eastern Front I've seen (and even better than anything I've had dreamt of) I miss more scenarios - GCs are great, indeed, but I think WiTE engine can do much better than many existing games already covering these campaigns/battles/operations.

This is not meant to be a closed list, on the contrary it's meant to receive suggestions of new scenarios. I will be collecting the votes casted by people and updating this post accordingly.

1) Operation Uranus-Saturn 42, covering initial Soviet offensives, Wintergewitter and the battles over the Chir river line. (work in progress: el hefe, scenario in the works "Red Army Resurgent")
2) Wintergewitter/Saturn (variant of the above after Stalingrad encirclement has been already achieved)
3) Operation Mars 42
4) Retreat from Leningrad, AGN campaigning during Spring-Autumn 44 (work in progress: el hefe).
5) Korsun Pocket 44 (work in progress: bcgames)
6) Bagration 44, depicting the AGC battles, variants covering what-if situations where German High Command wasn't deceived by Soviet maskirovka would be very interesting. (planning: el hefe).
7) Kharkov Early 43 (the famed Von Manstein's "backhand blow")
8) AG South Ukraine successful defense in March-April 1944 (one of the Eastern Front "forgotten battles")
9) Kursk 43, covering initial offensive by the Wehrmacht (work in progress: Don).
10) Race to the Dniepr 43 the post-Kursk battles over Northern Ukraine (work in progress: Don).
11) Ukraine 43-44, covering AG North and South Ukraine late 43 - early 44(?) battles (work in progress: el hefe).
12) Wintergewitter & Chir Battles: Smaller version of 2) covering Manstein effort to relieve Stalingrad as well as the defense of the Chir river and Luftwaffe airfields.
13) Operation Star 1943: Voronezh Front offensive to recapture Kursk and Voronezh
14) Operation Gallop 1943: Konev (?) offensive to recapture Voroshilovgrad
15) Ironman Campaign scenarios: Covering what-if's either exclusively or combined
  • Germany featuring a fully mobilized war economy in 1941
  • Red Army forces deployed in a slightly more sensible way on 22nd June 1941
  • Soviet pre-war doctrine implemented more in depth but with less breadth (i.e. less mechanized corps but better trained, morale, supplies and with full TOEs).

Well, you already have several of these in production.

I have 'Retreat from Leningrad' which covers number 4. I also have inherited a Uranus scenario from Number 1. I am currently working on a Ukraine 43-44 which would cover number 10. I also plan on a Bagration scenario as well. I know Don is working on a Kursk and a Race to the Dnieper which would also cover number 9 and 10.

I don't have the game yet so forgive me if this is already covered or if game mechanics make it impossible but it would be nice to be able to play out one of the biggest "What if?" scenarios of the entire conflict: What if the Germans had not delayed the invasion and launched Barbarossa May 15th?

What if the Germans had not delayed the invasion and launched Barbarossa May 15th?

With or without worn out tanks & crews and muddy ground?

Preferably without as I suspect the GC is mission impossible for the Germans. A few extra weeks of good weather might allow them to make a go of it.

You would also have to figure out where the Axis units were at this time as not all of them had arrived at their assault positions yet.

I submitted my 'Decision in the Ukraine 43-44' to the development forum for review. Maybe we'll release it in an upcoming patch as an extra.

After Korsun-Cherkassy Pocket, I'm going to try Operation Mars. I just received in the mails today Glantz's book on the subject; it looks like a fascinating topic that has yet to receive its due.

Nice selection. How about Star and Gallop? Which along with Little Saturn (Saturn was never launched in its original form)
led eventually to the back-handed blow. Of course the Soviets could just stop after wiping out a few allied minor armies and the
wait for the backhanded blow to fall on deaf ears and then castle and backhand the forehanded backhand.

el hefe,

I was going to port The Gamers "Enemy at the Gates" board game into WitE. They have already done all the heavy lifting with the unit and map research.

The unit scale is Bn's - Division. The map is 5 mile hexes and half week turns and covers 19 November '42 to mid-March 1943. It includes unit withdrawls and reinforcements.

Would this information be of any use to you?

I appreciate the offer. I just submitted the scenario to the test group this week so most of the work has been done ;)

If you finished the ones you are working on that would be great! Where would we be able to find these when they are ready?

I'm sure they will be released with one of the regular patches once we get some testing done on them.
