Production/Export question.

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Production/Export question.

Post by tblersch »

Basic question: how does the game decide how many of a given piece of equipment to "export" per turn? I've been playing the Italy 43-45 scenario, as the Allies through the end of April '44 so far (43) turns, and I'm seeing almost all P-38J/K production being exported to F-5Cs, and most B-24H/J production being exported to Liberator B.VI/VIII. I also ran the first six turns of the May '44 campaign, and saw similar (104 B-24H/Js per turn converted into Liberator B.VI/VIII, roughly on the order of the entire output of Willow Run).

Just two examples; I've seen similar with B-17Gs to Fortress RCMs, P-51Bs to F-6Cs and Mustang IIIs. It strikes me as very imbalanced...but after looking through the manual and boards, I can't puzzle out if it's WAD, PEBCAK, or a bug (thus posting here instead of tech support, since I can't tell). Does anyone have any more info as to how export quantities are determined turn to turn?

There is an odd case on the Lancaster BI specials as well. 1943 campaign, turn 1 = zero (pool and units). Turn 2 = 300 in pool. I believe these should be BI-III conversions, but they don't come from that pool (all accounted for). The editor says max import = 32. Where do the rest come from? Combined with the above, is there a bug in imports?
I have a cunning plan, My Lord
