What does Defense: Number mean on the pop up?

What does Defense: Number mean on the pop up?

On the pop up display there is a Defense: Number that shows up. Does anyone know what this means?

I cannot get that number to pop-up.

So it must be a switch setting. Maybe, someone know how to get it to show.
