Factory Type Symbols?
Can someone please point me in the direction of a legend that provides an explanation of what each factory type map symbol represents?
The Map Key in the game excludes them.
The Production section in the manual excludes them.
The Map and Terrain section in the manual excludes them.
There is no listing of them in any of the appendices.
Is the player left to interpret what each symbol means on the their own?
I realize many of them are self evident, but for example, how do I differentiate between a V-Weapon Factory and a V-Weapon Launch Site?
Furthermore, why are the factory type symbols not visible when the Factory Map button is selected?

Re: Factory Type Symbols?
Are you referring to what's on the one page guides?
There is two of them along with the Players Handbook that should answer your questions.
I am sure its on the one page guides.

Yes, there are 11 One Page Guides that you need to reference, these are in the Players Handbook near the end.
There is also the Manual and the Living Manual which provides even more greater detail.

Re: Factory Type Symbols?
Went through the entire book page by page and there are no One Page guides in it.
I am familiar with the One Page guides from WitE2. I have found none for this game in the manual.
There is a Tank (AFV Factory), a Pistol (Armaments Factory?) and a Truck (Vehicle Factory?) symbol in the targeted hex that are not listed in the Flyout. So the hex flyout doesn't provide the information I'm looking for.

As I stated there are 11 one page guides in the Handbook. Take a look at that document. Not the Manual the Handbook. Not the Living Manual the Handbook.HansBolter wrote: Tue Nov 19, 2024 12:49 pm Went through the entire book page by page and there are no One Page guides in it.

Pulling teeth is required.

These one page guides (all 11 of them) are in the Handbook that someone created and got added at one point.
Technically (if memory serves me) it i in the game, its basically the same as in WITE2, if I understand the info your looking for.

Found the One Page Guides. Read them all.
Very useful information.
However, none provided a key to the map factory symbols.

Re: Factory Type Symbols?
Glad you found them. It just might be that for whatever reason they never put in the on map factory symbols in the manual because it seems self explanatory when you hover over them.HansBolter wrote: Wed Nov 20, 2024 3:38 pm Found the One Page Guides. Read them all.

My guess is that you can hover over them on the map and they pretty much tell you what they are.
Just look for :
PRODUCTION
Port
Manpower
Railyard
Heavy Industry
Resources
Armaments
Fuel
On the fly out and it will show you what is in each hex (if any) when you go to the Bomb City menu.

Re: Factory Type Symbols?
I can only find 4 single page guides.
Factory symbols is something, I was curious about, also. Having played "Bombing the Reich", I have a general idea but have never been able to locate a simple chart of symbols vs functions. Relativistic value would be nice to find, also. Which city produces the most AFV, OIL, resources, etc.
A selector button or setting would be nice, to display on the map only oil, or railyard, of heavy industry.

You need to look in the Player's Handbook that someone created and got added to the install it has all 11 of the one page guides.TechSgt wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 3:10 am I can only find 4 single page guides.

Look in your manuals folder.
That is the thing about GG games, you have to read the provided manual, the living manual, and any other supplements to get a good understanding of his games, and then you need to read stuff in the forums.
GG game are not beer and pretzel games, you have to read the manuals. Its sort of like board wargames, you have to read the rules to play the game.

Re: Factory Type Symbols?
Zovs,
I'm not purposely trying to be difficult here, but I just wasted a considerable amount of time examining every page of every PDF document in the folder shown below. None of them have 11 One Page Guides. One of them, The Players Handbook, does have 6 One Page Guides, but none of those One Page Guides, nor any of the other PDF documents in the install folder, contain a legend for the Factory symbols.

I’ll have to double check but I am sure there are 11 one page guides in the handbook. But away from PC for several hours.

Re: Factory Type Symbols?
I play with the Player manual, open on a second monitor and constantly look-up items as I discover a need.
Yes, it entails a lot of errors.
I am guessing using the production charts and examining the various city icons, with a splash of historical throw-in can get an idea of what each mean. It would have been a nice QoL addition.

Re: Factory Type Symbols?
Also, FWIW I am using the DLC Torch and it states this in its separate manual:
gary grigsby’s war in the west: operation torch includes eleven new
scenarios for use with the gary grigsby’s war in the west game. these
scenarios were designed by trey marshall, John young, and Randy Seger,
and this manual includes their historical and player notes for the scenarios.
there have been many changes made to the standard game to go along
with this expansion, including several changes to the air portion of the
game. Many of the air changes are detailed in the two new One Page
Guides that can be accessed via the Game Menu. additional victory
condition changes for air campaign scenarios are detailed in section 4.0 of
this manual. also it is strongly suggested you read the latest what’s new
file that can be accessed via your Start menu group for war in the west.
there are two new features unique to the torch expansion that affect
both the new torch expansion scenarios and those that are part of the
standard war in the west game. First, the air group unit detail screen
now contains insignia artwork for most air units in the game. Second,
the multiplayer server game has been expanded to allow for, 3 and
4 player games, as well as 2 player cooperative games against the
AI. each side may have an air commander that takes all actions during
the air planning phase, and a ground commander that takes all actions
during the action phase (ground movement and combat). all players must
own torch in order to participate in a cooperative vs ai, 3, or 4 player
game. Additional instructions regarding the enhanced Multiplayer
functionality can be found in section 7.0.

Re: Factory Type Symbols?
Lastly, its right in the original manual on page 24, although there is no graphics for what the on map icons are its pretty obvious from the manual what they are.
View Factory Locations On/Off (hotkey Shift-l):
Town, City and Urban hexes with factories, to include
manpower, ports, railyards and resource production
have their hex shaded red and display symbols for
each type of factory present. The factory symbols will
be color highlighted based on the amount of damage,
with green for no damage, yellow for 1-50 percent
damage and red for 50-99 percent damage. hex pop-up
text will provide detail on factories, to include damage
percentage, which will vary in accuracy if fog of war
is enabled (13.1.1). Towns with manpower production
only will not be shaded, but the manpower symbol
will be displayed and the hex pop-up r text will list the
manpower production. factory symbols will also display
when a Strategic Bombing air directive is active (5.3.8).
Further while not showing a screenshot its also listed on page 48 of the original manual (page 34 of the living manual):
Once a path is selected, left click in hex to move waypoint(s) to
the selected hex.<PRI>: Selecting this brings up a
target selection list with fourteen types of strategic
bombing targets; Armored fighting vehicles (Afv),
Aircraft, Port, Railyard, manpower, Resource,
Oil, fuel, heavy Industry (hI), vehicle, Armament,
v-weapon, v-weapon launch, and U-Boat. Next
to each target type is the number of factories in
the target hex followed by the current damage
to those factories in parentheses.
So while they could or should have provided a graphic showing what each of these 14 items are, if you for example just open up the Air War introductory scenario and select bomb city you can find out what each of these 14 are by simply hovering your mouse over them, they are pretty self explanatory of what they are.

Re: Factory Type Symbols?
I didn't count the Flow Chart and what followed it as constituting One Page Guides, but I guess they are.
Are the symbols for V-Weapon Factory and V-Weapon Launch site different?
I've seen plenty of what must be the factories, but I have yet to spot what is supposed to be a launch site.
Guess I'll need to examine every coastal hex until I find one.
I finished my campaign and was awarded a Decisive Victory upon the conquest of Berlin.
I would have preferred to be allowed to complete the turn, but the game ended instantly upon occupation.
I've gone back to my WITE2 campaign, which is on turn 36 and will not likely revisit this game any time soon, given my overall dissatisfaction with it.
