Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

War in the West on Mac

Post by BIGtrouble77 »

Just wanted to chime in and say I have WitW working on my mbpro. I used the playonmac (search google) installer.

I did have to do the following:
- use the "install non-listed program" feature
- installed with the standard downloader (war in the east may work from steam out of the box)
- downgraded the wine version to 1.4.1
- setup wine to have a much larger virtual desktop than the standard 800x600
- installed the latest WitW patch

Issues:
- latest version of wine crashes whenever I use the arrow keys, so don't use it
- expanding the mac window scales the graphics and creates mouse offset issues, so don't do that

Everything else seems to work, performance is great, but I have not tried played very far into the game yet. If anyone wants to try the out, feel free to ask some questions here. I'll do my best to help out. This is one of those games I always wanted to play in bed on my laptop, and now I can!
