Is there an easy way to manually move air groups?

Post by itzrabiid »

Is there an easy way to reorganize my air groups manually? I want to move certain air groups up to Sicily but without clicking on every single airfield while in air transfer mode to find the specific one? The auto one isnt quite doing the job.. Surely im missing something?

Thanks in advance!

To answer your question, there is kind of an "easier" way to manually transfer air groups, but there is no silver bullet if that's what your looking for. That said, you have certain tools at your disposal to filter the information you are given and help you see an inventory of what you have to help you streamline the process. You will do most of this filtering and sorting within the Commander's Report, and once you have things filtered the way you want you can then select multiple air groups in the F10 Air Transfer mode and move all the selected groups with one click on the receiving airbase.

I like to organize my air groups by aircraft type within an air HQ as I assign them to bases, and then try to keep the same type of aircraft at any one base wherever possible. The best way to go about this is to go into the Commander's Report/Air Groups and sort the groups by aircraft type by clicking the "aircraft" header at the top of the list. This will put all the different types of aircraft in alphanumeric order within each air HQ, making it much easier to see how many air groups you have of each type of aircraft. To dive even further, let's say I only want to look at Typhoon IB's - then I can click on that aircraft type in any group containing them, and then it will filter out all other aircraft types, leaving just the Typhoons.

For example, before Husky even starts (i.e. - before the first air phase if playing the 43 campaign) I like to move a lot of the Typhoons out of England down to the Mediterranean because they have pretty short legs and aren't too useful sitting in England until Overlord. So, I move them to the Med where I can keep them forward where they can do some damage and gain some combat experience at the same time. When Husky begins and I start to take some bases in Sicily, I'll select the Typhoons to filter everything else out so I can see just the Typhoons, making it much easier to see how many I have and decide how many of those groups I want to put at one base. Knowing that a Level 1 airbase has a capacity of 90 single-engine aircraft, using the filters to see only my Typhoon groups (in my game right now I have 11 Typhoon groups in the Med), doing some quick math I know I can put a maximum of 5 Typhoon groups (16 a/c each squadron) at one Level 1 base. I can see I have 5 groups sitting at Causeway LG and 6 groups sitting at Sfax, so deciding to put 5 groups at the newly liberated Level 1 airbase at Licata, I can click on Causeway LG in any one of the groups sitting there and it will only show me the 5 groups of Typhoons sitting at Causeway LG. At this point I can go to the map, select F10 (Air Transfer mode), and lo and behold on the right side of the map Causeway LG is already selected and I can now see my 5 Typhoon groups sitting there (in my case I can also see my 2 groups of Hurricane IV's I have there). Now I can go to the top and click the boxes to the left of each of the 5 Typhoon groups and once selected I can do a single right click on the receiving airbase (Licata) and that transfers all 5 groups there. That is about as easy as it is going to get. Once you get used to doing it this way though, it becomes very easy and you can quickly move a lot of groups around in a short amount of time.

I hope that helps!

Late to the discussion, but I very much appreciate your thoughtful answer. Very helpful!
