How to Chhose Resolution in 1.040

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

How to Chhose Resolution in 1.040

Post by RobertWevodau »

Hi,

I saw the following quote from Lebatron in the Mods section:

"Patch 1.040, found in the members club, now supports alternate resolutions, so it's no longer necessary to use the trick I outlined above. But the download is still useful for the new backgrounds I added."

I have 1.040 (beta) installed, but I can't find where to choose different resolutions. I can see where to change window size, but that's different from changing resolution (isn't it?). I also tried the 5-step trick described by Lebratron to force the game to 1280x1024, but that doesn't work either.

Thanks,

There is a box in the game options or preference screen (don't recall exactly which) where you enter your screen resolution.

In preferences input in Window Size your screen resolution and this will when Full Screen is selected in the option at the top of the preferences screen adjust the full screen resolution.

rjh and Wolfe,

Thanks for the advice. I did that and it works. What confuses me is that Window Size (the label beside the box on the Preferences Screen) is different (to me) than screen resolution. I thought by changing those numbers I would get a different window size, but the same resolution. I see now that it works though. Thanks

Saw the game has been updated so decided to re-load and play the game again. However, after patching w/ 1.40 I cannot get the full screen setting to match my 1920x1080 monitor. Although I reset the screen resolution in the preferences screen to1920,1080, I continue to get a much smaller aspect type box on the game screen.

Any ideas here?

Thanks

Don't know if this will help or not but I'm playing on 1920 x 1080 set up via the preferences screen.

You will still have the game menus screens in the top left third or so of the screen at this resolution, however when you start the game and are in the main map screen this will be expanded to the full resolution you have selected.

PS I'm still on 1.040 beta so something might have changed on the full patch release

Just bought the game - trying to play at 1680 by 1050 (native resolution) and cannot do it. Been to preference menu and changed window size. Tried both windowed and full screen. Does not work. Keeps the same small screen when the game is started. The other thing that is happening is that when I change any setting in the preference menu after the I leave the game and come back these changes are reset to default. I am wondering if this is the issue. Any ideas would be great.

As an update:cannot play at full screen at all even if I leave all settings on default - keeps the same window when I go to the game.

Go to the directory that GGWOW is. Usually at C:\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's World at War A World Divided\dat. In the "dat" directory create a folder named "save" Then it should all work.

It's hard to understand why that bug is still in after this patch.

Is that a bug related to Win7 because I never encountered such an issue under XP?

Like jcrohio said it must be a problem with the new installer. I bought my version during the Christmas sale and it was v1020. It doesn't create the "save" folder in XP or Win7.

The screen resolution setting will not save if you don't have the save.

No joy, I created the save directory in the /dat folder. It did not change my resolution or save it when I exit the game.

Ok, finally got the resolution to display at 1900 x 1200.

So my next question is how do I exit the game. I hit the "x" key, but the menu never comes up to exit. Sorry for being such a noob. I also click on the menu button to exit the game, and nothing happens.

It's working right now. I didn't do anything, it just decided it would work. [:)]
