Tournament round 1 kondor (axis) vs Jan (allies)

Post by kondor »

´39 went as planned. Poland, Denmark... all under our protection know[;)]
Then strangest thing happened...
As myself and some of my bodies went to visit a friend...
Of course we wonna be safe wile we drive, so we all went with our tanks (Drive safe, drive tank rutine[:D]).
And just when we arrived, our friend brought some of his friends and they all welcomed us and hospitably gave us some vine, fruits and key of the city...[:)]
How kind of them... Of course that we wonna be polite, so we took it, set back and relaxed...
And then... Some other angry guys come for us, with guns and tanks.. even bombs![X(][:-]
They manage to damage some of my buddies[:-], and that make all of us [:@].
We just had to follow them and retaliate![:'(]
Eventualy we caught them around Paris... But some of them cowardly flee too England[:-]. THEY WILL NOT BE SAFE THERE, OR ANYWHERE!!![:@] we shall drive them too the darkest pits and into theirs (or ours) graves![8D]

Here is how the Europe looks like, after some play...
Axis forces have foolishly allowed the CV air raid, in result one LF has been destroyed in Baltic sea...
Serious losses at TLC counterattack by WA followed by retreat and ultimately fall of France...
Preparations for the Yugo. has been made...

Japs. played as usual...

All in all Jan has already gave me some painfull lessons[;)]
I just hope it will not be too easy for him...(boring)[;)]

My other AAR against Lebatron may follow... (Actually I don´t know if I´ll have the time for it...)

edit: some typos and resizing of pic...

As my opponent has already posted things have been pretty standard during the first year of this game.

Summer 39: Poland + Denmark
Fall 39: TLC + French counterattack to cause loses
Win 40: No combat and BEF leaves France.
Spr 40: Vichy is declared.

I didnt exactly put a lot of pressure on the Germans in E. France but still had enough to ponder a counterattack into TLC when the Germans took that in Fall 39. As can be seen below I managed to inflict 7 points worth of damage which cost my 5 points worth of supplies and some French units that were to die anyway. So, it was probably well worth the effort though not exactly a stunning victory. I then had to pour every single WA unit into France to make sure the Germans could not declare Vichy in Winter 1940.

I deliberately didnt throw enough forces into the attack to take the area as I found that too risk. In that case the Germans would have taken E. France and then driven the BEF into the sea most likely.

In China all factories are working while the Japs have been busy taking the 2 costals regions and bombing some rail.

More to come as events unfold.

Summer 1940
Yugoslavia is taken and Axis bomber deployments to Italy scare off the RN from the Central Med.

Fall 1940
WAR! The Wehrmacht attacks Russia taking Leningrad and E. Poland.
The Russians rail out the factory in BeloRussia but stay in force in Kiev with a force roughly equal to the German forces in E. Poland and Rumania. The airforces clash leaving 1 damaged Russian FTR and 1 destroyed German FTR. The screen shot below shows the situation at the end of the Russian Fall turn.

In China 2 factoress are damaged - and repaired.

In the Med Axis air and naval forces decimate the RN in the E. Med. English fighters arrive soon after to stabilize the situation. See screen shot below.
In the Atlantic war a Uboat turns elite (ugh!) while an Italy sub turns to fish food (yeah!)

Winter 1941

Winter turns out to be a quiet season. The Russians have nowhere to attack and simply try to consolidate their line hoping it will hold come spring. The Russian airforce trade blows with the Luftwaffe with casulties on both sides.

Meanwhile the English seem to ignore that war now includes Russia so there is no convoy with Lend-Lease. Maybe the fact that the Germans have taken Norway plays a part?

4 FTRs from London hit 2 German FTR in France causing damage on both sides. 2 Heavy bombers try to hurt the production in France but fail to score any hits. More are being produces, however, and soon Winter wont hinder the effort. A Uboat is damaged bringing the on map total down to 3.

The screen shot shows the situation at the end of WA turn.

Playing the game is whats its about - an AAR is just fully optional and only to be made if you have the time and inclination. So dont worry the least about that.

Spring 1941,

The Germans mostly reposition themselves while the Japanese make a decisive attack into China. A single Jap INF is damaged while most of the Chinese army is annihilated.

The Russians also mostly reposition themselves with a few airial bombardments being the sole action,

The Chinese just cry in pain.

The English, however, stage a large scale bombardment by air and sea to clear out an ART unit. This makes way for an invasion of Southern Italy by 3 INF against 3 MIL+1AA. The Italians show their bravery by surrendering to avoid further embarrasment. I actually had the chance to do so last turn but didnt notice till I had already moved alot of units that would have been needed for the invasion.

Jan is clearly a supperior player[;)], he is punishing every my mistake, every crack in defense... And I make them a lot[:D]
Loss of south Italy will cost me dearly... I am not at home, so I haven´t seen the actual turn yet, just replying on AAR.
I went into SU unprepared in fall 1940.[:-]. Because I saw that Russia is heavily investing in FT-s, and I tought...Let´s go for it early! Had to do something off standard to maybe catch him of his guard... Like that´s possible[:D]. Couldn´t get very far into SU, totally deserted mediteran, didn´t even invest into subs.., and the WA bomb´s the crap out of me everywhere![:'(]
I have overestimated the power of AA[:-], and German FT-s cannot be supperior if fighting against SU and WA..

It is not over yet! But from know on, will be very, very hard...
The empire of the rising sun on the other hand, well, at least frustrating till know...
Couldn´t hit his factorys for long time... and even 2 times his infantry (or milita, not sure) hit mine HB-s with automatic hits[:@].
But last turn I invaded inland, and decimated Chinease troops with only one damaged inf. unit... Capital is next.

In every case very educational game for me...[:)] Thanks prof. Jan [:D]

I have a question?
Where has all the Italian fleet gone?!
Before Jan started his turn (and invaded southern Italy) I had a fleet of 10 units in the Adriatic sea...
After S. Italy fell they all have just vanquished?![:(]
[&:]
Is that normal? It doesn´t seems wright to me...

Well, at least Spain has joined my side[:D], so there is still hope..
But I am spread thin, and been forced to play last couple of moves with haste, and Jan has panished me accordingly...
Germany has halted all of the SU invasion, reinforced N. Italy... Built some more FT-s, but still those HB-s from GB will bomb a hell out of my units...

Japanese have overuned the Chinease capital and wandering where will they go next?
USA subs are know at ev. 3 att. 3 and they will be a threat to mine ASW...
Germany know has FT-s at att. 7 ev. 7 (WA 7 6) (SU 6 6), infantry and tanks about equal.. (Germany leads ahead of SU inf, but has fallen behind in tank attributes...)
Interesting game, but I did my common mistake with Axis side (I have too early manage to overextend my forces..[;)])

If any of you know why has the Italy fleet dissapeared please post here (is that a rule[:(][&:])

That is the Italian surrender rule. Italy surrenders once you have lost 3 out of 4 of the following regions: N Italy, S Italy, Sicily and Tripoli. Italian surrender removes all Italian units from the map.

Section 13.1.2.

Damn Franco. I guess he figured that if the English have already taken out Italy they may not think twice about removing him from power as well - or maybe the completely defenceless Gibraltar was too large a temptation. At any rate the Spanish join the Axis cause with most of the RN in the Med. In China Chungking falls to the Jap army without much of a fight.

In Russia Stalin orders a bloody assault on the German stronghold in Rumania with large casulties on both sides. More Russian forces are railed to Kiev to continue the fighting as long as it takes.

The US has finally had enough! The incidents with France and Chunking allow Roosevelt to declare WAR. 4 Jap TRS are sunk and the US Navy ships out to face the IJN in the Pacific. Meanwhile the English reinforce S. Italy to face the large buildup of Germans in N. Italy.

USWR:
+13.5 avg. from 9 turns
+ 6.0 avg. from 4 minors
+ 7.5 avg. from 5 Chinese provinces
+ 3.0 from Spain
+ 3.0 from Vichy
+ 4.0 from Sub attacks
making the avg. exactly 37 which is the threshold to DoW as I recall.

Fun game.

The unit was already damaged so it could not be damaged again, but the firing unit gets to roll for vet status anyway.

After having lost my battle against Jan (I was playing Allies) this great battle report shows me, what I should have done. (Kondor, you're not alone in your misery[:D])
