Played the entire tutorial and am on the 3rd mission in the Japanese campaign.

Here are my positive impressions:
* Beautiful Game!
* Great tactical gameplay. I especially love the flank attack system and the interplay between the various unit types. It has a great feel.
* Love the special powers: The Banzai special attack is a lot of fun though I wish there was a better sound effect for it. Currently there is just a little swishing of a sword...c'mon! This is a Banzai charge. Let's here it!
* This is the best 'Panzer General' type game that I have played. Great feel, great look, great gameplay.

One negative impression:
* There is a bit of a problem with historical correctness that I have run into:
The Japanese Fleet units are too weak and ineffective vs. their historical counterparts.
Japanese surface units are about as effective in their fire as Dutch, British, American, and Australian units. This feels very wrong. The Japanese surface units were highly trained and very, very effective. This needs to be either balanced better with some starting experience for the Japanese surface units, or perhaps a special attack (It could be called Night Surface Attack) that allowed the Japanese to do more damage.
Also, the Japanese torpedo attacks seem to be about as effective as the Allies. This also feels very wrong.

If these small issues can be addressed, I think that you've got one heck of a game here.
Well done!

Note that the Japanese torpedo has an extra hex of range, to represent the long-lance torpedoes. Iirc, they also do more damage.

But remember that torpedoes are more effective at short range, and also most effective against enemy ships which have fired but not moved.

I tend to agree. I would like to see a Japanese Atack bonus for 1941 through 1942. This would create the historical Allied "hold the Line" Strategy to hold until the reinforcements arrive along with the Japanese "run wild" strategy to milk that bonus and conquer as much territory as possible before the inevitable Allied counterattack. It would reflect this quote by Admiral Halsey

"Before Guadalcanal the enemy advanced at his pleasure -- after Guadalcanal he retreated At ours"

thanks,

Kevin
