hopes are up

Fans of the old Panzer General series rejoice for the release of Panzer Corps. Following in the footsteps of the popular SSI masterpiece and sharing with the General series the same level of engagement and strategic depth, Panzer Corps will keep an unmistakable "PG feeling" whilst improving and refining the gameplay and balance. Panzer Corps will feature 26 scenarios on 21 unique maps, covering most major battles of the European Theatre of World War II and including a few hypothetical 'what if' scenarios based on your actions. Now expanded with a full-war mega-campaign and the Afrika Corps and Allied Corps releases!

hopes are up

Post by ijontichy »

I'm so glad this game is being made. PG 1 introduced me to wargaming, and I bought all the sequels. I've even played PG on the PS1 console, and I still sometimes play the open-source clone, LGeneral, on my Linux box.

Based on my reading of the developer diary, if you have a large screen resolution, Panzer Corps will show more of the map, rather than simply stretching the graphics. This should be standard, but it is nevertheless very welcome.

For the RPG aspect, I'd like to see detailed statistics available. Both post-scenario statistics, and unit statistics for campaigns. Detailed stats would be nice (e.g. damage points inflicted, # kills made, objective hexes conquered).

From the screenshots I haven't decided whether or not the units visually stick out enough from the terrain. The brain can get used to it to some extent, but there are many games that fail in this area.

Oh well, good luck.

P.S. Maus ... LOL.

I also played the PS1 version...it actually put me in the PG realm otherwise I never had the chance to play a proper game until Panzer General Forever was released for download.
PS1 was a fine port in my opinion and was the only game of it's kind on that system.
Nice avatar you have there on the left for that armored showdown.

I only found out about PGF yesterday! What a fantastic job. And Panzer Corps is by the same guy. Awesome.

Yes, it showed the viability of turn-based wargames on consoles, but I guess the public didn't see it that way. Whatever the case, it kept me sane during a lonely winter in Alaska.

Back in the day, I bought a 3DO gaming console just so I could play PG1, and eventually AG,......at that time PG1 was only available as a DOS program....
