Cities / Placing New Units

Post by genehaynes »

I may have missed something, but once the scenario / battle is started, is there any way to tell those cities that will allow you to place newly purchased units? I think the manual states a captured city must be under your control for two turns before it can act as an "supply point" for newly purchased units.

When you're fairly deep into a battle it would be helpful if there were some visual indication of the cities where you're allowed to place newly purchased units.

Check the strategic map prior to deployment, you have a nice overview of all the possible deployment zones, use TAB to switch on/off units visible on the strategic map.

Thanks for the reply, but I was asking about AFTER deployment. There is no problem identifying where you can place your core units during the deployment phase.

However, If I'm not mistaken, once you start the scenario / battle there's no way to tell which cities will allow placement of newly purchased units prior to accessing the purchase screen. I think the manual says you must control the city for two turns before you can place purchased units there.

This isn't an issue at the beginning of a battle because you'll seldom purchase units that early. In addition, you probably haven't captured that many cities.

However, mid to late game, I think it would be helpful if there were some indication as to which cities allow placement of newly purchased units.

I agree and some indication was discussed but we did not come up with a good solution, so it did not make into release. Personally, I do it like this: if I need a certain unit, I buy it, check strategtic map for placement hexes and identify the best hex for it. Or, if no location suits me, I just cancel the purchase.

That's what I do, too, Rudankort. One doesn't need to buy the unit one has selected for purchase. But by selecting it for purchase the possible placement locations are highlighted on the map. After the placement locations have been noted, the purchase placement window can be closed and the unit selected for purchase is gone--it wasn't actually purchased.

Ja, I do not see a problem with deployment.

Basically every city you own you can deploy except recently conquired cities.
