Mad Cav

Forum dedicated to the Scourge of War Game set during the Napoleonic Wars. Scourge of War: Waterloo follows in the footsteps of its American Civil War predecessors and takes the action to one of the most famous battles in history. It is by far the most detailed game about the final battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition.

Mad Cav

My British Cav must be Japaneses, when I have them going fast towards French Inf in lines and tell them to charge they turn and race towards French squares and Banzai on the squares. I know that British Cav was bad but not this mad.

Why did you command them to charge in the first place?

When you order a cavalry unit to charge they will charge the nearest unit. If they are left to AI control they will almost never charge a square.

Mine often do, they seem to be "testing" the squares. They charge, loose some men, pull back then try later(this is when they work closely with infantry)

They often approach at the gallop, halt, pull back if they take casualties - but rarely charge home onto a square - they get very roughly handled then. There are morale checks performed too representing the cavalry spotting a square about to break - but Mitra would be better able to answer that.

From what I understand hovering around squares in a threatening posture is what was involved in keeping enemy in square to allow a combined arms follow up with arty and infantry.

spot on plus 1, the AI is acting correctly, the human player just need to adopt the combined arms approach. I use this and a line of infantry can make short work of a square and a wiff of grape ofc ;-)
