A few questions please for a Newbie !

Forum dedicated to the Scourge of War Game set during the Napoleonic Wars. Scourge of War: Waterloo follows in the footsteps of its American Civil War predecessors and takes the action to one of the most famous battles in history. It is by far the most detailed game about the final battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition.

A few questions please for a Newbie !

Post by jlf2626 »

1. I saw on a video that the player talked about changing the artillery shot type. Is that true and where/how is that accomplished ?

2. Is there a setting in the Options Menu that I don't have to use the Courrier delivery system at all and just use the point and click method to give my units orders ? If not what's the Highest Level of Command that I should select in the Options Menu so I don't have to use the Courrier delivery sysyem any more than I'm forced too ?

I tried the option: "Orders by Courrier at this Level" -- set to "None" hoping that I wouldn't have to use the Courrier system as often. But it didn't seem to help.

3. One thing I have noticed is the Cannons fire a lot of Ammo for hours through out a battle and it seems few if any soliers die even at close range. Am I wrong and misssing something ?

I should add this in Single Player/ Sandbox Mode.
Thanks for Help.

Hi

Artillery will generally fire the appropriate shot type for the range. Each gun has only two types: solid ball for cannons and canister for short range while howitzers have explosive shell for long range and canister for short, so while you can manually change ammo type there isn't really any need to. British artillery has a limited supply of shrapnel which they will use in place of shot/shell when appropriate.

Yes, you can turn off couriers entirely. You may have set a realism mode that included couriers in the options which your courier level setting then overrode. You can set these under "Preset Difficulty Level" on the first page of the Options screens.

The artillery is too weak IMHO in the stock game. There are mods out there that make it more historically effective.

You find the orders in the couriers order list, modded toolbars can show the commands as buttons. Anyway consider that the AI can decided to change alone against your order the ammo if the range limits are not respected.

Point and click works also with couriers the only difference is if the courier start or not: it seems strange that with the option set to none you continue to generate couriers: with the option set like this and using the right click the courier starts from the officer to your unit?

Artillery efficiency is heavily impacted by a number of factors: elevation of shooter\target, distance, ammo type, target type, ground defensive value, experience of shooter, dimension of target, surface occupied from the target. Is not sufficient place the battery, it has to be correctly placed: ideally on higher ground respect the target, inside the optimal distance, with a free field of view (before infantry line or on the flanks shooting to the flank of enemy)
