Curious no new maps created? Or mods to terrain...

Maps are the hardest thing to create. The KS Mod has dozens of "new" ones which were imported from the free maps made with Gettysburg.

Nice to know. I find their site somewhat confusing.....not sure where to start :)

At last count there were 40 maps in the mod, many of these have one or two variants as well, such as uncrossable rivers and field fortifications. If you have SoW Gettysburg and the various add-on map packs NSD produced for that title, the mod will let you unlock those as well, giving about 20 more maps, again several have variants including in some cases the original dense woods to represent broken terrain typical of parts of Spain and Portugal.

For those maps with ACW origins we have thinned out the forests considerably and removed all the combat effects of the rail fences so these don't exist. Unfortunately we cannot remove the fence sprites themselves as these are part of the map 3D structure which we cannot access yet. Likewise we are not yet able to change the American buildings.

All the minimaps have been redrawn in a more early 1800s style so in many cases roads are not shown and some woods as well. The usefulness of the minimaps are intended to be quite poor!

We are continually adding maps and several are under construction or testing right now.

The first all new map designed for SoW Waterloo is under testing and will shortly be released with the next version of the KS Mod. This is the famous Meckel Map of the 1860s designed for use with the Prussian Army Kriegspiel officer training game. It represents a fictional area of "Ruritania"; a region of rolling farmland and small villages with many roads, small woods, cultivated land and a fairly major river valley. It will come in two versions, one 'normal' one and one with many villages having fortifications in them dealt with by the Waterloo engine in the same way La Haye Sainte and Hougoumont, etc are handled in the stock game.

The map has been built by Mark who is the author of the original Gettysburg map, assisted by Martin James who provided original source material and guidance.
