regimes crossing borders

Besides having a wall of units, how do you keep other regimes from crossing your border?

As your forces expand your potential territory (the white dotted lines do not constitute your established borders) the AI will eventually request that you establish official borders with them.
Usually after they take some territory near you, so timing is key.
Until then, your perceived territory is fair game...as is theirs.
The other way to establish true borders (colored dotted lines) is to declare war.

Per the Manual for clarity;

3.4.2. BORDERS
There are two type of Borders in the game, Zone Borders and Regime Borders.

3.4.2.1. ZONE BORDERS
These usually signify an internal Zone
Border.
A small dotted line signifies these
borders.
However take note that they are also used to denote borders between
Minor Regimes with whom you have an Unclear relation.

3.4.2.2. REGIME BORDERS
These are big and bold dotted lines.
Note that they are white when they concern a border with a Minor Regime
with whom you have an Unclear relation and that they are colored with any other Regime
(like notably Major Regimes).

If you raise up a regimes relations with you high enough they won't encroach on your borders even if unclear.

pg 206 of manual

"If the Relation is lower than 35 the Minor might also infringe on your
territory seen the “Unclear” relations. If the Relation is higher than 35 the
Minor will not try to “steal” your Hexes."

the slavers, arachnids and rogue AI are not going to respect your borders except in the rare instance that they are bogged down fighting others, or in extremely rare cases, that the slavers get a high relationship with you through events.

I have gotten slavers to accept peace deals in the past (I really did not have time for their bullshit due to multiple other hell wars) they respected the new borders all game and just sold me slavers until all the pops in the territory were drained, then nothing.

Yes, the Slavers & Arachnids are quite ornery...at least the Arachnids tend to be small in numbers & thus easier to deal with.
At least, that has been my experience.

agreed!

i've been able to manage arachnids and rogue AI with a couple of GR units i find and just play on the defensive until they're distracted by another major, or i get situated and can take them on.

nomads and slavers, dear gods, it's gotta be war because i can't rely on events to make things right with the slavers and i've never ever been able to make peace with the nomads.

I have found the Hunters, when encountered, are a pain to deal with.
Particularly when forests are plentiful...you can't find the bastards, but they can find you. :)

How how will this concretely happen ?

Not sure what triggers this, exactly.
I am thinking it has something to do with the AI's perception of how big a threat you are, via relations & your units near its' borders, for example.

Interesting. So I will eventually receive a message from the AI asking me to setup a final "red" border to the existing "white" one ?
Is that it ?
