Troop upgrading and LIS

Post by devoncop »

Hi

So I have been making old models obsolete and wanting to upgrade my troops in situ to the latest models.

My supply network is in good shape.

Yet I seem to invariably end up with miniscule amounts of upgraded units trickling out to what are almost empty shells of units in the field whilst thousands of troops sit around in my SHQ making hay with the bar girls whilst waiting for their new shiny guns and jackets...[8|]

So what is the most efficient way of speeding this process up ? Better roads ? Upgraded buildings ? Rails ?

Any advice greatly appreciated .

How I do it:
1) Privatize and upgrade your truck station in SHQ/capital. You'll want level II fairly quickly.
2) Make sure your traffic lights are putting all of the LIS where your troops are.
3) I rarely buy troops inside SHQ and expect them delivered, instead, click on counter then on the specific stack inside of counter you want to upgrade then you'll see an UPGRADE option. You can also mass upgrade for an entire OHQ. Many times I have upgraded thousands of troops in all 5 counters in an OHQ with one request and no problem filling the order.
4) With vehicles the above doesn't work. You have to replace them with newly built ones BUT you do not have to wait for this to happen. You can use the same method with REPLACE instead of UPGRADE.

Many thanks.

I have had success with individual unit upgrades but just wanted to see if the SHQ method could work better.....it seems not [:)]

I have a level 3 truck station in my Capital and only one adjacent zone so it's not a road issue.

Thanks again

Because I want everything in trucks, I do disband early infantry to use for new motor units... when I do this, I notice that replacement troops do sometimes trickle out without my guiding it... this is fine, so it works, but not reliably enough for war.

I think you convinced me.

Upgrading OHQ by OHQ manually will be the way for me now [:)]

You can also give your SHQ priority allocation of points towards replacements and see if that helps.

You can also put your older models as low quality or obsolete and then your new model should replace them

Be careful when setting units to 'Obsolete'. If you set a model to obsolete and there are still a lot of those models in the field the very next turn they will all show up at your SHQ. This will leave you with a lot of empty shells on the front lines. I only obsolete a model after I have upgraded all of them in the field. Takes a long time depending on your LIS network but you keep your frontline units fighting.
Forgive me my old friend...but I must use all my experience, to get home.

Yes you hit the nail on the head there.

Exactly what I have just done and half a front collapsed [:)]

That^^

Generally setting them to lower-then-normal quality and orderig the formation to only tollerate the low quality stuff is the way.

I sugested somewhat more detailed settings on the model level for this:

As for the OP:
"Yet I seem to invariably end up with miniscule amounts of upgraded units trickling out to what are almost empty shells of units in the field whilst thousands of troops sit around in my SHQ making hay with the bar girls whilst waiting for their new shiny guns and jackets..."
You make it sounds like they are not upgraded yet. Why are they not upgraded yet?
Did you upgrade them? You know you have to do that upgrading manually, right?
As long as they are wearing Obsoleted equipment, they are considerd "Disallowed" for every unit in the field.

To zgrssd :

Thanks for that. The troops all cleared off back to the SHQ when I rendered their equipment obsolete but once there they did upgrade to the improved model and began automatically trickling back to their units but just not quickly enough to say the collape of the front so it did work.....just VERY slowly due to LIS restriction.

Needless to say I will be doing the upgrades unit by unit going forwards :-)

If you find a unit with the Old Design you can usually do a "Mass Upgrade", where you can select if it should try just this unit, all under the same OHQ or everything under the same SHQ.

But I really wish there were more model-size options for managing that.

I like to find a unit that I want to upgrade and mass upgrade the OHQ or the entire SHQ. You can do some stuff with the model TOE with the low and such. I like to keep my garrisons cheep as they tend to lose troops from events and dont need the firepower.
