Pretty Portraits Mod

Post by gamblor »

To those who might be interested, this mod replaces all the portraits with some semi-realistic, pretty, post-apocalyptic faces generated by AI.

Important to note that this does away with the random portrait generation system and instead just draws from a set of portraits / characters I created via Midjourney. It also does away with character aging, so people will look the same no matter what age they are. Although you won't have the same variation in portraits as the original, they'll at least be prettier to look at. I believe I've included variations for all the game's main racial / culture groups, but if it looks like I missed one please do let me know. There are at least 4 portraits for each gender of a racial group, so there's at least some variety to play with.

Some of you might think "man, these attractive people have no place in a sci-fi apocalypse", and while that might be true, I figure I should look at some aesthetically pleasing people if I'm going to stare at this game for 3 hours at a time. It's true that these portraits do clash with the rest of the artwork (i.e. the vidcom scenes and the 3D character models), and so I'd recommend combining this mod with the artwork mods packs for strategems and vidcom scenes.

To install, unzip the "portraits" folder (i.e. the folder itself), and place it in your Shadow Empire game installation folder, under:

graphicsAlt\shadow\

So if you're like me and running your game on Steam, you'll want to place the folder under

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Shadow Empire\graphicsAlt\shadow\

Thank you.
These looked really good.
But not quite right.

(Think I extracted them into the wrong folder).

Hey Magpius, let me try and help, is it not working for you? Can you please tell me the directory where you copied the files to?

There is no such thing as a historically accurate strategy game. Every game stops being historically accurate from the very first move player do. First unit that moves ahistorically, first battle with non-historical results, mean we ride in unknown.

I even use it with the 1.25 to get better portraits for the units. Thanks a lot :)
