Rail gun or nail gun?

Post by pjg100 »

It appears that rail guns are only able to upgrade one level of art weapons, and that the only effect of that is to increase the demoralization hit from 5% to 10%. Is this WAD? If so, it does not seem that these units are worth buying or upgrading.

They are worth it if you have run out of artillery to buy! More artillery! And more mobile!

Not really. They don’t de-entrench anything. And they are ineffective against resources. I see no use for them.

I think they are pretty useless too. Since they attack the resource (like the strategic bomber from WiE) and don't de-entrench they are almost useless. They cost 200 MPP and take up space. I think those 440 (to upgrade with artillery weapons) could be better spent on air probably or tank development. I once tried in WiE to use the rail gun on Sevastopol but as you noted ... its doesn't de-entrench which is functionally not the best way to spend mpp. Stuka's are the way to go.

Yes. Far as I can tell they aren't very good at attacking resources either. If the arty weapons upgrade improved their resource attack strength, and if they could be upgraded two levels, then perhaps they would be interesting but as it is . . . meh.

I find great use for them in addition to regular artillery. They reduce readiness and morale which is huge in this game...

Stukas? Tanks? This is the WW1 game? They are probably less useful in the WW2 games but still nice to have when you have run out of other things to buy and research...

In WiE they are slightly more useful, because there they can accumulate up to 3 shells and do deentrench once upgraded. I just really wished there was a toggle for resource/unit attack. The biggest gun being useless against guys in a fortress (or town for that matter) is just so weird...
