Mine clearing

Is there any way to clear mines (own and enemy) other than sailing through them?
If not there sure should be one.

It's been discussed a lot. However, the last I heard the best thing to do was take it out with a relatively expendable ship like a torpedo boat or destroyer. No minesweepers yet.
