Naval Mines

Post by Tanaka »

Been a while and need a refresher:

Naval mines will have the same effect as ships on blockade hexes, so it is strongly recommended not to place them on the Blockade hexes, because sinking the merchant ships that are bringing goods to your country is doing the enemy’s work for them.

My question is does placing a naval mine on a convoy route work the same way as placing a sub on a convoy route? Does this also reduce enemy MPP or no?

Also can your ships be damaged if you run over your own mines?

To my knowledge mines do not have a raiding effect. However I have witnessed mines placed on the Norway convoy routes have a negative diplo effect on Norway.

Yes, ships that run directly over any discovered mine (your own or enemy) have a iirc a 50% chance to trigger it. I already involuntarily confirmed this a few times [8|].

A fun thing to do with mines placing them on any kind of enemy "activator hex" (e.g. Halifax). They'll trigger the effect like any ship and the only way your opponent can get rid of them is intentionally ramming them.

Gotcha thanks for the tips!

Bavre unveiled this little trick against me by laying mines in front of Halifax. It was a major pain and cost the UK many lost MPPs until I could get a destroyer over there to clear them.

Currently, the only way to deal with is to clear the mines by driving friendly ships through the hexes. It would be great if in future patch the devs could add a mine-sweeping capability. This could be done by adding a new mine-sweeper unit, though they would take up limited port space when not in use. An alternative would be to add a mine-sweeping function for destroyers and perhaps other naval units to simulate mine-sweeping escorts. Mine removal should take at least as many AP as it does to lay them; arguably a lot more. It would make mines an even more interesting aspect of the game, as swept mines would then enable the enemy to lay new ones in unexpected places.

Hey guys..long time no see. [8D]

Well, Tanaka took all your advice and has used it on me with good effect. I am recording this match for YT and I think the fist episode will go up public around Dec 8 2021.

Hey..Mike, good to see you back posting. Sometime in the future..we should finish that Arab Revolt plug in mod. We are real close and I did tests...but wanted to wait to go further until its plug into the campaign.

Bavre...We gotta do a full campaign sometime...though those two tests of the Montenegro Gambit and our AAR's was quite fun!

Yeah...Tanaka is the devil in the Baltic atm....I will see what I can do to clip his horns. [:D]

I've upped my WW1 game on land and sea! Prepare for a better fight than the previous two smackings!

I hope! Haha

Hi OCB,

just PM me if want a match. I'll need 1-2 weeks of advance warning however, I'm in a bit too many matches right now .

And about the mines I forgot one thing:
Since they count as normal naval units they can be used to siege harbors. This is especially useful if the harbor is the start or end of a convoy route (e.g. Halifax again). If the harbor is damaged enough, the convoy will cease and once again your opponent will be forced to ram the mines or permanently loose the convoy.

Yeah I know about the siege effect of mines too after dropping one next to Cetinje. Noticed the effect when I crammed an AH sub in there too! This is all good info for everyone else. [8D]

I'm also crammed with MP matches..it would have to be in 2022. cheers
