New Strategic Command WW1 Tournament

Post by gamerdude »

hey Strategic Command WW1 Fans... starting a new private tournament for Call to Arms.

Plan start games by December 15, 2024. Open to Advanced Beginners up to Experts. Guaranteed 3 games, then after ranking the results, the single-elimination bracket starts.

Players with NO or limited experience in this game should not sign up. One game at a time... and expecting the playing pace to average 1turn/day. Laggards and Ghosters will be kicked out! ...

For complete details, pm me or send an email (gkizziah@aol.com). Should be fun!! (assuming you enjoy wargaming!)

PS: I ran a similar tournament for WW2 several years ago... and it went well!!!

hello all.... still open to late signups.
We have 10 players and action has already started.

As of today (Dec 13 2024) we have one additional player wanting to sign up.... however, he will need an opponent, as everyone else is playing (tournament design is only ONE game at a time).... so late signups need to be two-at-a-time.

so.... If you want some CALL TO ARMS action, this is the place to get it!!

if you are interested in the rules or to sign up, contact me directly at gkizziah@aol.com.

Hi - congratulations to all for signing up for this tournament. I regret that did not have the time this month to join you. But I would be very interested in getting some stats from each of these games, more data from MP games of the regular Call to Arms campaign will help me refine the next iteration of my Icarus mod. If you are willing, when each tournament game is done, I would be grateful if one of the players made a short post to this thread providing the following info:

- Which side won and scale of the victory.
- Date of the turn when victory was achieved (or number of the turn, according to the PBEM notifications).
- The final NM levels for each of the 9 majors, including those which surrendered or withdrew from the war.
- Whether Germany opened by going West or East, or if they opened with a hybrid strategy.
- What month did Russia withdraw from the war (or if that did not happen).
- What turn did the USA enter the war (or if they never reached that point).

A more detailed AAR would also be fun to read, but if you can just provide the above data it will be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Michael

wow....
.... the scope of your request is far beyond what I think we will be able to provide.... I am lucky just to make sure everyone is playing!!! ... or, at least, playing promptly. .......
..... so we'll see how much data comes thru... I am trying to make it fun and "casual".... some of the players have just purchased the game.... so not looking to stress anyone out (including me!!!!!!!) with a big data request.

Sorry to miss your competition.... we are at 14 active players (December 21)... and ONE player waiting for an opponent ...so we will then have 16 players... and I think that is a nice round number for bracketing.

Very interesting!

In my opinion data requested are feasible to give... so they can be voluntarily provided when the match finishes...
They are very concrete data and don´t require effort to report them.

It would be nice :-)

Howdy I would also like to see even some casual partial data if not everything, as mdsmall and Zaveric would like.
An old school note pad and pen nearby to jot down contemporaneous notes is easy, and another way to learn too.
Cheers

After the start of the new year.... and when we know that signups are closed... In one of my weekly updates ... I'll outline the information needed from the victor to "score" their victory, including some of the data that you have requested. Some of the info may be used for "tie-breaking" in the final brackets... and also, according to our tourney rules, to re-calibrate what either side must do for a victory, before the finals begin.

I will encourage the final two players to conduct an AAR on their championship game. Before this point in the tournament, I'm not sure that the winning player with the winning strategy, would be all that interested in revealing it to their future opponent. (Otherwise, it might affect their chance at our PRIZE FUND! ..... oh.... there isn't one.)

So far, with our email group, there has been some limited description of the progress of the games.... SO MDSMALL (OR ANYONE ELSE) ... If you will send me your email (to gkizziah@aol.com), I will add you to the group email, where I will share results.

Regards to All,
Gary

Hi Gary - many thanks for doing this. To note: I am only asking players to record two dates while they are playing the game (date when Russia withdraws; and date of U.S. war entry). And then when the game is over, to record the date of the last turn and the final NM levels for each major. That should not be too hard for them to do. I think this data will be of interest to other readers of this Forum as well.

Cheers!

I intend to post the standings, on this link, as we move from round to round.

Here is a little taste of the first two completed games: (each game has a potential to earn from zero to 7 points depending on level of victory attained and the date accomplished.)

I hope no one is laughing at my start!!
More to come..... Gary (gamerdude)

I kind of regret that I didn't start to save screenshots for a little AAR. The game with Zarevic turned out to be extremely tense and interesting :D
We are currently at Turn 57 (July 1916). Germans made a full France-first commitment (I haven't intended to do that at first) and captured both Verdun and Paris, bringing French NM down to 20%. Zarevic responded to that by a masterful maneuver in the east, flanking AH forces from the west and driving into Slovakia, cutting the railway to Galicia (and supply along with it). In a couple of turns an entire front nearly collapsed, Budapest and Vienna were in range of Russian Cossacks and I had to pull back just to try and save the Austro-Hungarian army, all at the same time as Italians pushed in and took Trieste, opening the way into the hinterlands. A lot of rapid redeployments (I even had to plug in the lines with German railgun) and an almost suicidal German dash into Poland rectified the situaion somewhat: Warsaw has fallen, Italians have stopped (for now) and Austrians re-established the frontline in the mountains but their NM took a massive hit (from 75% to 44%) and it doesn't look like Russians are about to stop there.

This actually excellent material!
Btw I have played Zaveric in the past. He is an excellent player.
So are you if you manged Paris and Verdun on a Schlieffen France First.
A counter-stroke from the East is always the danger.
Keep us posted! 🙂

Unfortunately, gods of war were not on my side this time :? In the end AH was forced out of the war in May 1917, being surrounded on all sides and France was still kicking around. Had to throw in the towel after Czechs joined the Entente on the end of my turn (now that's really stings). I'll post some screenshots of the final turn + stats here.

- UK: 64%, France: 7%, Russia: 82%, Serbia: 102%, Italy: 116%, Germany: 27%, Austria-Hungary: 0%, Ottomans: 10%
- Germany opened with going West
- Russia did not withdraw from the war
- USA did not enter the war

Nice Reports! Looks like a hard fought match. Austria-Hungary folded first but the Ottomans still clinging on. That's unusual. Thanks man!
