I don´t think Subs need to do more MPP damage on convoy routes, it grows with tech and I think thats fine. But I would recommend that Subs should be better at damaging amphibious transports. These little bastards evade damage far too often. Maybe that can be reduced (8%/amph tech level against normal ships, so that makes 40% in total and 5%/tech level against subs for a total of 25%).

Especially late in the war your subs are probably not raiding (because the US bring in their destroyers). But you could still lurk for transporters and do good damage. Also subs could get +1 action point per tech level while diving.

Elessar2, but in your testing, did you give your subs a high dive %?

If so, did you get the impression, not only infrequent sub retreats, but also less dives than otherwise expected?

Just from 40% to 50%; nothing anomalous seen in the diving mechanism.

I would like to see a retreat range boosted mildly to 3-4 hexes, and an increase in dive capacity. Each has their merits and enhancements to survival. In addition to the +2 increase for DD.

With subs, I'm still unsure whether, hunt and silent mode are the same with regard to an enemy unit running into it.

Will my sub attack an enemy that runs over it regardless of mode? Or is there a difference?

As in, 'if in silent mode will the unit expose itself foolishly'?

It won't, unless the enemy ship would end its move in or adjacent to the sub.

Afaik silent ones do also not attack on their own (i.e. ambush).

Bill, is there an attack:defense ratio check to see if the sub unit will even do it? And not commit Hari-Kari?

There's no test as if the enemy end their move adjacent to the sub then it will be automatically spotted.

Players often move hex by hex for that reason, so diving doesn't de facto keep it hidden in that case.
