Problem with USSR Surrender

Post by Mercutio »

It was said in another thread and I am too lazy to look it up, but if Germany and Japan are at war with USSR and Russia surrenders you are given a choice to divide the USSR (which makes sense) but then all partisan activity ceases, which was not intended.

I believe you said that was an oversight devs. Just reaffirming. Not that I like 100s of MPPs sitting around to quell rebellion against my enlightened rule. [:D] (note, no massacres or mass starvation was implied as that is a stupid policy when you just want to control territory and take the cash. Not that that is noble, but....)

Hi Mercutio

It's not an oversight, just something that we don't have a solution to I'm afraid.

The thing is that by dividing the territory, the USSR as an entity ceases to exist, therefore it cannot have any Partisan events.

So the only way to avoid the Partisans ceasing is not to split the USSR, which isn't necessarily what we want either. It's a bit of a headache with no good way to resolve it.

Also if the USSR surrendered, the Allies chances are very slim, unless they are already in Germany or something like that. After surrender and split, Germany alone produce more than the entire Allies, Japan more than the UK, and they can defend.

So really no way to improve this? I really want the ability to split Russia and Germany and Japan keep their gains. Perhaps something like Vichy where east of the Urals is Japanese and everything else is German?

Maybe a vichy style solution would work, since that would leave the western SU as SU, meaning it can have partisans, while the new japan Siberia would be free of partisans, but that would be a small part only with limited resources, so not that bad, while the Germans at least need to spend a few dozen of garrisons.

Could you do something just cede eastern Siberia to Japanese Manchuria or something, like east Poland is ceded to Russia, and the German occupied bits remain as occupied Soviets.

This is technically possible, however it wouldn't set the new boundaries in accordance with how much was under German control and how much under Japanese, because we'd have to predetermine a split that would apply when the USSR surrenders.

I will take another look at this subject when I've got a bit more free time, as working on our forthcoming WWI game is my main focus at the moment.

I don't think we'll find a perfect solution, but it may be that a "least worst" option is possible. Hopefully! [:)]

I agree. I think Fintilgin and I are saying essentially the same thing. It is just a matter of where to draw the boundaries.
