Replacements cost when over unit limit

Post by Pocus »

If somehow I'm beyond the unit limit (either from soft limits or buying units before a scripted unit arrives, pushing me to -1 allowance), what happens to my replacement cost? Do they still use the base cost (modified by my Production level), or do they use the current buy cost of the unit (still modified by Production level)?

Because imagine the issue: I buy all Pz Korps for Germany, then the DAK one arrives, putting me at -1, and thus until I lose a Pz Korps (which will happen very late in the war), I'm punished by spending more on each and every replacement for years to come. That would be horrible and a major production loss.

I'm not sure I understand your question but if a unit costs, for example, 200 MPP, it will cost 10 MPP per strength point (5% of cost) adjusted for Production tech no matter how many of that unit you have in your OOB. Or have I missed the point?

[Edit]: I'll have another go! If the 'extra' unit takes you to 7/6 (-1) or whatever the limit is, you cannot buy/replace a unit when that 1st one is destroyed - you are at max. 6/6 for the rest of the game. Each time you replace units that are destroyed from then on, it will depend on their supply when they were destroyed (zero = full price; otherwise, 60%) adjusted for Production. I'm pretty sure that's how it works for scripted units but I have never played with soft limits, so I can't speak to that.

You still don't understand my issue and question, but that's probably on me. Let me explain: you don't have to play with Soft Limit to encounter the issue. Take the DAK, which provides a panzer corps. It can put you over your limit, at say 5/4 (I'm not in front of my gaming rig, so my numbers are just examples). Suppose the base cost of an armored corps is 200, but now, given you are above the limit, it's 220. Is each point of damage 5% of 220 or 5% of 200? If it's the former, then until you are at your limit, you pay for each and every point of losses more expensively than the base, which amounts to vast quantities of MPP over time.

Or consider submarines: if you buy some before the scripted ones arrive and then you are beyond your limit, it's not trivial.

It might be that the inflated base cost exists only in the case of a soft limit, though.

This is correct.
