Any way to bypass the PBEM error collapse?

Post by Ktonos »

So, in late war especially, a turn takes maybe even 30 or more minutes to play. Every time I press end turn, I stare in terror at the "uploading" message, dreading the possibility it won't end in a "turn successfully uploaded", but in a PBEM error.

Not only you feel like losing 30 mins of your life which you must redo, but it also is unfair to the opponent that you get to replay the turn with knowledge you got in advance (I always try to do the same moves, but you get what I mean)

I wonder why does the game crash after a connection have failed, and not return to your end turn situation and let you try to upload again.

Is there any way to bypass this? eg, If I save midturn and get a PBEM error, will it crash? (meaning, if not, maybe I can save just before pressing end turn?

Thanks for the feedback and I can certainly appreciate the frustration, especially after 30 minutes of playing the turn.

Being able to pick up right where you left off in theory would not be a problem, however, in order to maintain game play security nothing is saved on the client side, e.g. on the player's computer, as it potentially opens the door to hacking and cheating.

This is why it is only ever saved on the server, but of course if the server fails, you then have to replay the turn as you've experienced.

The only suggestion I would have here is to save periodically during your turn, as these saves are saved to the server and then if you get a crash due to a failed connection when you are finished your turn, you can pick up from where you last saved.

It's not perfect, but ideally will help a little bit for those times when it might fail if you've saved, and saved successfully via the server, at least part way through your turn etc.

Thanks Hubert, that save solution is close to perfect.
