Preserving my port

If the enemy is using airpower to bomb a port into ruin what is the best way to prevent it? Would putting an aircraft carrier on the port with its fighter set on cap and intercept slow things down?

If you can spare one, an anti-aircraft unit posted next to the port would probably be the most cost effective response. Doesn't ever take any losses in return when defending an adjacent resource.

What I am most thinking about is after I have invaded and captured a port. I am trying to get it up to full capacity and the enemy wants to prevent that. Would putting a carrier there absorb the bombing blows and allow that port to build up?

Its CAP will certainly help, but it comes with a significant risk to your Carrier.

Upgrading the port with AA is the most direct way to hopefully impair their ability to attack the port.
