Additional Campaigns

Post by snowstorm »

Will there be additional campaigns added to Beta before the initial release, such as 1943, or perhaps hypothetical German-Russian alliances or others like in the older versions? I've been playing both sides alternately for both 1939 and 41, but would love to test out 1943 or 44 as well.

A 1944 campaign. Other than to see history replay itself I'm not sure I see the reason. There's just no way the Axis could survive. Even if the Allies had not successfully landed on the shores of Northern France there was no stopping the Russian juggernaut. The Allies already had a second front opened via Italy, the Mediterranean was Allied control except a few ports around Greece. There's no diplomacy to had by this point in the war either.

That being said, a February 1943 scenario leading up to the Battle of Kursk would be fascinating. It was at this point that the Hitler finally gave Manstein full operational control (kinda) and Manstein devised the counter attack plans against the Soviets. After the Battle of Kursk, the war was effectively over.

There are some juicy options Bill could be include in this kind of scenario. One would be the option to allow or disallow the splitting of German army groups A & B. Another where the allocation of new tanks would go. Then a third would be whether to actually proceed with Operation Citadel in April, then again another choice in May, June, July or never. Each time there's a delay more "free" forces are added to the German pool, but Russian defenses are equally provided for free.

True about 1944, but they did include it in older versions of SC, so there is precedence in doing it, even alternate Operations that both Allies and Axis had on the table but never used.

The scenarios are just amazing in this game. Want more :) I would love to have a 1936'ish too. And of course I can't wait for a "whole world" version of WW2 that includes Japan and the Pacific theater.

I agree completely on the "World Conflict" idea. Can't wait either. [:D]

By mid 1944 Germany was doomed, that didn't prevent people form asking for a Bagration scenario in Assault on Communism and they got it!!!
Players are thrilled by the challenge to turn the tide over or see how long they can last and if they can do better than in history.

I agree the diplomatic and military balance might look very bad after 43-44, but the victory objectives could be altered also.

I would like to see a scenario in late 1944 when the soviets are at the gates of Warzaw and Budapest. The victory objectives for the axis could be to just hold Berlin, the Ruhr and maybe something else for a period of time(to give the axis a fictional diplomatic "victory" in the end).

Also the axis player could get a decision event at the start of the game to choose where to deploy the last panzer units.
(Basically Ardennes or Budapest in real life at that time)

It could be a hard but refreshing scenario as there aren't alot of games that focus on the later part of the war.
