Last round (?) of feedback before release

Post by Megalomatrix »

Played through the game more towards the beginning/2nd phase of beta. I came back to it recently after the last update and have some feedback:

- game seems to play more smoothly, punchier/faster
- German AI initially great on offensive first turns in Poland, later less
inspired in the Polish campaign (AI priorities seem off)
- AI naval game weaker? Or reaction - more allied ships? Seemed noticeably stronger play by Germans in the North Sea on earlier versions...but being able to leaveTreturn through German-controlled straights was a plus and gave "guerilla" feel
- once you get the hang of it, the turns play quickly. This was more of an issue during the first couple of playthroughs.
- maybe not so historical, but Italian offensive in S. France is a great
risk that needs to be countered, however it seems to happen every game, thus very predictable
- would be nice to have pp numbers drop after clicking "purchase", not after
closing screen
- would be really nice to have a brief description for each unit type (2-4
sentences definitely enough) explaining briefly it's ideal role, etc. Otherwise
have to wade through stats to get a good idea about how light cruisers fit
into fleet composition, or what special forces do (this note in UI thread as well)
- good density of choices/events/theaters
- interesting: Italy goes with naval bombers
- Tension between USSR / Allies handled well (e.g. Finland event)
- USSR mechanic - automatic masses of units if attacked....good balance
decision
- Allies Narvik choice...good mix of event/normal gameplay?? Looked to be

I really like this one. I've played a number of turn-based grand strategy games for ww1/ww2, and this is one of the best of the lot. UI/user experience is generally very good for a wargame. AI seems more than competitive. Graphics are excellent for the market.

Glad to help. It's great to see this one come along.

BTW - this round of comments is focused on the first few months of the war. After following generally historical strategy and learning the ropes (see what happens, eh?), the results are pretty...um...historical in January 1940 regarding overall situation. Allies are in bad trouble in France but not quite so caught along the Maginot. German navy has Gneisenau(10)/Scharnhorst(6) and 2 subs in the Atlantic (that's it). Italians are concentrated in S. France and navy doing well after a fiasco of mine in the Aegean...The mix of historical/ahistorical probabilities is great.
