SOE: Egypt(1939)

Post by DarkHorse2 »

I don't expect for you guys to nail every detail, but there is some expectations that it is loosely based on historical-fact.

Not quite sure what you guys used for historical reference, but in SOE, you have the following units deployed:

While in reality, outside of the naval, there was barely anything deployed in Egypt in 1939.

* HQ(O'Connor) is understandable. (will ignore that one)

* Army(WDF) :?: :?: :?:

Come on guys, the WDF did not even exist until 1940!
The Headquarters Western Desert Force was formed on 17 June 1940 by the redesignation of
Headquarters 6th Infantry Division. The General Officer Commanding was Lieutenant General
Richard O’CONNOR, C.B., D.S.O.*, M.C., who was promoted from command of the 6th Infantry
Division. Italy had declared war on the United Kingdom on 10 June 1940, and skirmishes broke
out between British and Italian Forces immediately.

(see - https://www.britishmilitaryhistory.co.u ... E-1940.pdf )

* Corps(XII) :?: :?: :?:
The XII Corps was formed in the United Kingdom circa June 1940. The first commanding officer of
the Corps was Lieutenant General Andrew THORNE. XII Corps was stationed in the south east of
England in the counties of Kent and Sussex, and had its headquarters located at 10, Broadwater
Down in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
The XII Corps was never in Egypt.

I am inclined to think you guys got bored and just started throwing unit counters at the map. :lol:

These units won't really play a role until Italy enters the war, but their deployment there at this time does mean that the UK isn't likely to be caught out when it does.

As to XII Corps's name, you are right in that it wasn't there. I will see if there is a better Corps name that is available.
