Time to call it a day there I think. I played on for a couple more turns and the Germans had utterly destroyed my armies in the south and were within one hex of both Leningrad and Moscow.

It's been a lot of fun but clearly a lot for me to learn here - particularly research, because apart from the destruction of Rommel's panzers (which seemingly had no detrimental effect on German progress) it has simply been a case of being destroyed, falling back, being destroyed falling back.

Big thanks to those who contributed their expertise and comment [:)]

Nooooooooo! [:(] I loved that AAR. While you did make some serious mistakes which slowly accumulated and got you into dire straits, I really think all wasn't lost. Actually, this was part of what made the AAR so interesting. I would have loved to see you turn the tables in 1943. [8D]

Anyway, see you around! [:)]

Put it this way - in the next couple of turns I did:

- The Germans were adjacent to Moscow
- The Germans were adjacent to Leningrad - which was down to a 4-strength.
- There was one army left in the south - in Stalingrad - even the Kerch Straits had been crossed.
- The RM had smacked the RN about badly near Malta.
- The Afrika Korps followed the rear-guard British units into Iraq with predictable results. Yeah, all was lost [;)]

Sorry to see this end. I was looking forward to how the US would impact the AI when an invasion of North Africa was attempted to relieve the pressure in the east. However, I do understand the need to not waste time on a lost game when you can start a new one.

Thanks for this AAR. It was both entertaining and educational.

I enjoyed the journey.

Looks like there is quite a learning curve, but kudos to your trying out the new game. And posting the AAR even if things weren't going your way.

Looking forward to the next campaign.

Thx

Warspite 1, your AAR was an inspiration to a player who would love to get into this sort of game but has tried and not quite got on with (despite several attempts) WITE, WITW, DCB (which approached this for accessibility) and even WITP-AE.

If I had limitless time to play, any of those games is clearly fascinating, and I will go back to them, but this one is accessible "out of the box" as it were, although there are clearly depths to learn.

I am still playing my first effort as the Allies, but my turn rate even against the AI is limited by time so I move slowly. But your AAR and your style were quite fascinating, so thanks very much.

Looking forward to your next one.

Thanks RichMunn for the kind words. I guess it helps that I am not too concerned about making myself look a spanner [:D].

I try and do these AAR early doors without having had a chance to learn the game (although MWIF I had at least played an early version of the board game) or understand the mechanics in advance. It's an opportunity to see how good (or otherwise) a job a game maker has done in making their product easy to get into and get playing.

I still haven't had much of a chance to study the manual - but there were plenty of tips on offer from the good peeps on the forum previously so I hope to put up a better show next time. I will be playing the Allies again - with the same rules and options.
