Final War 2022 campaign for Strategic Command World at War

Post by Zahav »

Hello this is my presentation for a grand campaign that emulates the political and military situation of 2023 within Strategic Command World at War. Campaign is based on knowledge and study, but not intended to represent full reality in an experimental manner. The units icons have not been changed, but they had been upgraded to last levels.

Overview:
Campaign starts on September 1 2023 and ends on September 1 2027. The two main sides are the Western Alliance (Allies) and the Eastern Axis.
Western Allies consists of:
US
UK
Canada
France
Germany
Italy
Poland
Ukraine
Australia
Japan
South Korea (labeled as Manchuko in game)
Taiwan (China)
India
Israel (Palestine in game)
Iraq
Saudi Arabia
All the European members of NATO besides Turkey and Hungary who are neutral at first
Other nations on allied side

Eastern Axis consists of:
Russia (USSR)
Communist China
Iran (Persia)
Houthis (Yemen)
Pakistan (labeled as Black in game)
North Korea (labeled as Red)
Syria
Lebanon (Vichy France)
Cuba
Venezuela
Any of neutral nations with axis alignment or neutrals who can be persuaded to join

Theaters of war
Northern Europe: Russia faces both Norway, Sweden and Finland. Conquering Scandinava might bring great advantages. For allies defending the region is crucial for having success at the Baltic front and further war within Russia.
Baltic front. Russia has to conquer the three Baltic States, while their militaries by seem weak, there is already established NATO forward presence, making the task not so simple. And there is the issue of Russian forces stationed in Kaliningrad (Koenigsberg). Either the Russian forces there are now trapped in a cauldron to make an advantage of Suwalki gap. For allied forces, especially Poland, destroying the Russian presence in the Kaliningrad enclave is the top priority.
Ukraine - Ukrainian forces have received all the best weapons from the western powers, yet the Rusians still hold Southern Ukraine, Donbass and Crimea. While fighting western forces in Scandinavia and the Baltic, Russians still have the gigantic task to defeat Ukraine. But, since main allies are bogged down in other sectors of the front, Russians might still have a chance. Ukraine also has created some partisan units who distract Russians at their border near Bransk. For the Ukrainian army the main task is to hold out and defend the new major Russian attack and use possible allied success in Baltics and Scandinavia to liberate their own lands. One note, while all the western allies can now help Ukraine directly, Hungary for their own reasons have decided not to abide by article V and have chosen neutrality. Diplomacy must be used for both sides to make them join the war.
Middle East: Iran has started its own major advance against Iraq and western allies in the country. Meanwhile Syria and Russian armed forces stationed there have to fight for survival against both Iraq, Israel and allied forces. Since Turkey has declared neutrality, their flanks are safe for now giving them some chance against the allies. Georgia (in the game labeled as Republican Spain is neutral). Azerbaijan is together with Turkey here. The Russian air force operates in Armenia. Getting these nations into war might be crucial. Central Asian states in the game are neutral as well (labeled in game as Tannu Tuva and Tibet) thus preventing Russia and China from directly aiding Iran and Syria.
Arabian peninsula: pro-Iran Houthis in Yemen fight Saudi Arabia. There are a lot of western allied air and naval assets in Saudi Arabia and minor states, for Iran, Pakistan and China is a crucial task to gain control over the Persian gulf.
Indian subcontinent and Indochina: India would rather be neutral, but since the Chinese and Pakistan alliance they have no choice, but to fight the Pakistanis and fear Chinese expansion in Indochina. In Indochina all the nations are neutral. However, Cambodia is fully controlled by the Communist China who also have a naval base on the islands at the coast of Myanmar.
Eastern China Sea: Communist China has declared the goal to clear out the last remnants of nationalist China in Taiwan. However, they are obstructed by the US and Japan naval and air power that must be eliminated beforehand. The US also holds assets in the Philippines and Australia.
Korea and Russian Far East: war in between Koreas have started again. Russian air assets stationed in the Far East are a danger for Japan and US forces stationed in the area.
Central Africa: Sahela region with French. Sudanese and Canadian army presence faces problems caused by Russian mercenaries or special forces who have occupied some of the towns and disrupting supplies. It's in the interest of the Eastern Axis to get African nations to join their cause against the Allies.
Caribbean sea: Venezuela has allowed Russia to have an air force squadron in their territory, causing great concern for the whole region. Meanwhile, China has deployed their own military presence on Cuba with a few missiles.

2. General notes: So what we have here is a very big campaign whose premise defies the WW2 setting of the game. Former enemies are allies and theaters of war have been completely changed. What has not been changed is the military units and whose strengths are still in late WW2 levels. However, that still allows to immerse fully the importance of air superiority for both sides. Long range air attacks, middle range rocket attacks, are the main thing in this campaign. Ground forces are powerful, but without air support are hopeless. At first the eastern Axis might seem to be at disadvantage, but given their large resource base they still can prevail in the long run. Allies also must be aware that before they could bring their full potential to the frontlines, they might just be overan by the enemy. Diplomacy must be used to get some of the neutral nations into their side to improve the odds. Knowing the size of the campaign, know that every turn can take a long time to complete at the start. AI will make use of all the Air force assets it's been given and so you should too. While in some areas the combat might bring unrealistic results, because of game constraints based on WW2 setting, most of it still should reflect our day realities. There are also some custom background images, made by using AI image generators.

Issues and bugs: the WW2 related events and popups are still there, because I made this on the top of the vanilla 1939 Campaign. There are still some yes and no decisions that can help you or not. Still haven't found an event that would break the campaign fully. If you find such a report. Some units might not be fully updated to the last game standards. Can be updated during game play. There are some things that should not be in 2023 setting like a wrong capital for Communist China. But, I did not want to butcher map tooo much. Another thing I would want to add are new updated supply routes like US-Japan or Europe-Japan, or Russian-Chinese routes. But, dont know how to do that. Of course new modern unit icons would be a great thing, but havent found the safe way how. I know that this might be awkward for me to make WW2 strategy wargame to be like WW3 campaing, but I did mainly because I like drawing maps and am interested in current political- military developments. If someone here does try it out and have reasonable suggestions or corrections and most importantly they can be done in the editor, go ahead and tell me.

P.S I might seem like a new guy here, but I have played the Strategic Command since its first original release, played and made campaigns for Strategic Command 2, just did not share them.

Note: these screenshots does not 100% represent the campaign as its been released now as there some fixes and changes. For instance the borders and frontlines are corrected.

Looks like an interesting scenario!

So it is easy to remove events - you can't do it in the editor, but can go into the files and comment out or delete the lines with the events that you do not want.

It is also quite easy in the editor to change capitals - locate the capital you want to remove and make it a regular city or major city, and then find the city where the capital you want is, and create a capital or major capital resource.

Convoy events are also relatively easy events to edit. Take a look at the convoys event file and you can see the format, it is all clearly explained, you just need to define who the convoy is between, choose start and end harbours, and set waypoints for its course. US-Japan is very easy as you can probably have a straight line between a West Coast port and a Japanese port. Europe-Japan is will require more care as you have to navigate the Strait of Malacca and then the Suez Canal so must take much more care in specifying your waypoints.

Thank you for your suggestions, when have time will take more edits.

Also I am sorry, I placed this topic in the wrong game section as it was meant in the World at War not War in Europe.
