Transport Bug Rockets

Post by mcaryf »

This post is for Hubert or one of the development team

I am still working on a Mod I started for AOD when it was first released, it uses my Seaways loop system, many additional unit types via minor countries and varying values of evasion to reduce the chance of damage to larger units as opposed to smaller ones.

I vaguely remember that I reported a bug to you in about 2013 that related to sea transport for rocket units and that you might have given me some sort of patch or workaround. Unfortunately that particular PC bit the dust soon after and my work on the mod stopped until you re-released AOD last year. The bug is strange in that the AI is capable of loading rockets onto a sea transport but humans are not given the option. As I use a very much enhanced rocket unit to serve as a nuclear weapon system for the Allies it is rather frustrating that I cannot shoot it at anything worthwhile from the US mainland!

I remember that I did find the error back then but I also remember using transport for the rocket unit after that, so you must have helped me in some way.

You may remember that I am an enthusiast for loops so, if you cannot fix it, I might make a land loop from the US to Tinian or Guam through which the nuclear bomb can pass. However, I would prefer the greater flexibility that a transport facility would give me e.g. to use nuclear weapons in Europe as well.

Please let me know if there was/is a fix to this restriction.

By the way in my continued development to help the AI to use loops I have found quite a few issues with the loops specifically designed for the AI to use in the standard version of AOD particularly from North America. I could let you have details of these if you are interested although I guess most players would be unaware of the impact.

Hi Mcaryf,

Sorry to hear about the trouble with your mod and with how Rockets and Transports work.

It's great to hear that at one time I was able to help you sort it out, but unfortunately I don't see it as a viable option at the moment to try and do so again. I've just moved to a new development PC and the older projects are essentially closed and in storage.

If you can work around it that would be good, and yes I'd be interested to hear more details on what you've found regarding the AI and loop issues.

Thanks,
Hubert

Hi Hubert

An example of an AI "loop" issue in AOD is that it seems the AI is sometimes given a shorter delay for a loop to be implemented. For example the AI playing the Allies might get a delay of 1 whereas the human player gets a delay of 3. I guess the AI is intended to get some sort of advantage as its units spend less time off the map whilst being transferred. However sometimes the AI has delay 1 whilst the human player has delay 2. In fact this is better for the human player as a delay of 1 turn means that AI unit emerges on the opposing player's turn thus the opponent has a choice as to whether to attack the unit or not. On the other hand a delay of 2 means that the human player emerges on their own turn so they get the choice as to whether to attack any nearby enemy unit.

I am not 100% sure of this but are the minor countries that can use loops determined by whether their major country partner can use them? I had the impression that Canadian units were not using loops owned by the UK. I therefore changed some of the standard game's loops to be all country loops rather than just an individual major.

As a general comment Canadian units do not seem to have much scripting, for example they have no offensive scripts although they do have some amphibious ones.
