Display with photo of real unit (option)

Post by fulcrum28 »

It would be great if the new TOAWIV allows a space to include a real photo of each unit.

Currently, upper left, we have a space that shows the terrain, a 3D model, and some stats of the unit.

I think if the interface could be slightly modified to allow users/players to upload real pics of units, it would be a new feature that not only will add flavor to the game, but also may attract new players. Another matrix game Command: Modern Air Naval Operations, has this feature, and users/players are building an increasing large DB with new photos.

As long as the new TOAWIV can be easily modded by the community, the game will stay active longer.

Just some suggestions! Great game in any case! :)

Yes great idea. [&o]

But if this was added we would not have this game until 2050 at the current rate of snail pace development. In all this time another person could train to program and reach this current level of development it is so slow. I look at other Matrix games that have had this same type of development and they are done far faster. I feel nothing more should be added so we eventually get this TOAW4 completed for us.

Frankly, I'm not sure about it. Of course, it would add flavour to the game but would it be practical? I mean, the units in TOAW aren't single tanks or planes. They are groups of equipment and people - e.g. regiments, brigades, divisions, and so on. What picture could represent, say, the Das Reich division or the 2nd regiment of a 9th division?

I think we need to have at least a 2x2 cm or 3x3cm icon on the top right in which the players can optionally upload any icon for each unit. Something is done in other games like Naval air command.
As default, this space could display the counter or the terrain exactly as it is done in TOAWIII. But the new option would enhance the mod capability and stimulate new players to join the game since small graphics are always appealing. Otherwise, we can still enjoy (and very welcome!) :) the technical and combat improvements but the game may not grow in both axes: number of players vs realism.

Freyr, since it would be an option, this is a problem of each player. If I'm playing a division level game and now i have the 1st SS Panzer division, I would upload a small icon with a Pz IV or Panther depending on the year and front. If it is a PzGr. Regiment, I would upload a small icon of a german halftrack...and so on :)

Alternatively, it could be the insignia of the division/regiment. And the equipment database tracking, let's say each picture of the particular equipment.

It would add a lot of work for scenario designer and increase the size of each scenario.

it is just an opinion, what I mean is that adding new graphic-related features (which are not heavy) is always good. See Hearts of Iron series, there are many mods for them and essentially a large part are related to the graphics part. I do like more TOAW but I think that still having the small icon (upper right) with 3D model and terrain that could be modified by users would be a great new addition.

This game also adds the feature I'm talking about so that each platform in the DB has its own icon and users are providing new packs/updates for them periodically.

I like the idea. In War in the East, you have it too.
