TOAW 4 Campaign for South Viet Nam
I enjoyed this one on TOAW 3. Does anyone know if it will be available on TOAW 4?

RE: TOAW 4 Campaign for South Viet Nam
I remember an amazingly well-documented multi-part year-by-year Vietnam study scenario set available for TOAW III. Will that work for TOAW IV? Is it still available?
RE: TOAW 4 Campaign for South Viet Nam
There is a Scenario 'Campaign for South Vietnam 1965-75' in the Custom Graphics scenario folder.

The designer wanted to test them out a bit more before releasing them to TOAW IV.ORIGINAL: PaulWRoberts

Campaign for South Vietnam should be included with the game. I made some upgrades to the scenario specifically for TOAW 4.

Thanks, Curtis Lemay.
RE: TOAW 4 Campaign for South Viet Nam
I have the whole Vietnam set, and there is a website to support it. An amazing effort, but tbh, in a lot of the scenarios combat just moved way too slow for me, which would be historically accurate!

Indeed, it is in the "Custom Graphics" scenario folder.
I do recommend everyone checks it out, it's one of my long time favourites
Re: TOAW 4 Campaign for South Viet Nam
Hello all!
I am just getting into TOAW IV and found this scenario in the graphics folder. However the full briefing file is not included. Does anyone know where I can find that file?
I played a scenario like this on previous versions of the game and remember some things like commitment levels, triggering events, etc and really want to try this out.
Thanks in advance.

Casey, in case you haven't found it yet here is a copy of the full briefing for Campaign for South Vietnam. I changed the file suffix to ".txt" so it would load as an attachment. Change it back to ".doc" so it loads correctly in the file viewer.

Vietnam Combat Operations update
You are referring to the scenarios Vietnam Combat Operation by Stéphane Moutin-Luyat aka Boonierat.
We received his kind permission to modify and publish his scenario.
As stated by others, this is a truly outstanding piece of research.
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 0#p4210630
It was not difficult to convert all fourteen scenarios (covering varying months of conflict) to TOAW4. However, the unit icons on the individual countries are not converted. For example, the ARVN Region Force icons appear as RF in TOAW3 but revert to Heavy Airborne Infantry when converted to TOAW4. See the above forum discussions.
I have not been successful in making these graphic mods (above my pay grade, I guess).

Don't feel bad Rob, we can't use multiple graphics for one icon. It's not a paygrade issue, it is simply impossible.I have not been successful in making these graphic mods (above my pay grade, I guess).
If you zip up all the counter sheets for VCO and send them to me, I will come up with an outline of the issue. There could be a partial solution, but there cannot be a full return to the original design, unless we get assistance from a programmer that is interested in determining how to back out the change made to IV limiting the icon graphics to one sheet.

Steve, I just sent you a PM of the ARVN counter sheet.sPzAbt653 wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:11 pmDon't feel bad Rob, we can't use multiple graphics for one icon. It's not a pay grade issue, it is simply impossible.I have not been successful in making these graphic mods (above my pay grade, I guess).

I will zip the complete set.
Do you have the complete Vietnam Combat Operations loaded into your TOAW4?
Do you have TOAW3 on your computer?
cheers
Rob
Re: TOAW 4 Campaign for South Viet Nam
Hi Rob - I got the zipped set from you today. I didn't have any form of VCO until now. I have never looked at the scenarios. I do have TOAW III.
I am working on it. It looks like the scenarios use the same 13 counter sheets thru out the series. I find 42 instances of custom icons. I will see if I can fit all onto TOAW IV's limited single counter sheet. But I think there is no way around some one having to go thru all 14 scenarios in order to input the original icons onto the existing units that only use the one sheet. It seems like that will be a pain in the ass

Re: TOAW 4 Campaign for South Viet Nam
I've been playing this scenario, and I noticed that my artillery is way more effective than I anticipated. I think it's because each turn represents a full month, which gives artillery too much impact. In just a few battle turns, the artillery alone wipes out all enemy units, making other grounds units feel almost unnecessary—at least in the early game. I'm not sure if this will change as the game progresses, but for now, it feels a bit unbalanced. I'm considering adding a house rule to address this. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips to make the gameplay more balanced? Also, do those familiar with this scenario have any other house rule recommendations? I'm absolutely burning with passion to have some vietnam action!

Re: TOAW 4 Campaign for South Viet Nam
I enthusiasticlly reccomend "Campaign for South Vietnam" as a really good scenario. It's realistic. I like that. You feel the artillery has too much moxie and I feel like the AC-130E/H modeled in the game doesn't have nearly enough moxie. I used to fly on those every other night up and down the Ho Chi Minh trail. which reminds me of a war story you've never heard.
When I first arrived at Ubon, Thailand in Aug. 1970 I was assigned to the "Tan Son Nhut turnaround". TSN was a major airport in downtown Saigon, South Vietnam and the "TSN turnaround" meant taking off from Ubon just about dusk and following the Mekong river southeast to Pakse, Laos which upon arrival it's dark. Then straight east to Saigon and go into an racetrack orbit over the airport until about 03:00. Then you land at Bien Hoa, another major base near Saigon, to refuel, rearm, and get some breakfast. The midnight meal is served from midnight to just after 04:00 as I recall. Then we reload the bird and go into that orbit until just before dawn and head back to Ubon. We crewmembers in the back of the plane didn't have anything to do so we mostly lay down next to the guns and dozed off. We kept one ear open for anything important. Suddenly we heard in the earphones the IO yell: "Strella at four o'clock brake right, brake right." Someone on the ground in Chulon, a surburb of Saigon, at about 02:00 in the morning, shot a Strella missile at us. At first I though I'd stand up but then hearing a bang I sank down to my knees behind the 40 mm gun for protection and the right scanner pulled the lanyard for the flare pistol and the missile started guiding on the flare instead of us. The flare pistol going off was the bang I heard. The IO was alert and teamwork saved the day. This was in early September, 1970 and they definately had SA-2's then. I believe that's what they are called.
