Creating the h_tile and s_tile

Post by Cpl GAC »

I'm using paint.net; is there a way I can transfer the images on the tile png to the h_tile and s_tile pngs without having to try and duplicate each one exactly?

Resize?
If you're STILL making Panzer IIs after seeing your first T-34... you're probably going to lose.

I've used resize for unit icon mods (just the rectangular box) and Misc files, they've worked. Suggest modding the entire h_tile files, then copy onto the smaller file and then resize. Be sure the modified tiles line up perfectly over the original tiles. If they are offset from the original, it will be evident in the game. Note, the resized graphic may not be as crisp/sharp as the original.

thanks, Rhino. I'm going to match the size (dimensions);
h = 1,020 x 704
tile = 510 x 352
s = 270 x 192

Been there. It is painful to be sure. I ended up doing new designs for each size. May not have been the best approach, but it worked.

For all terrain and the counter files, I do all of my design/editing on the H_tiles_[name of file]

From there, in paint.net, you can CTRL+R and resize by percentage. Pick 50%, and save as tiles_[name of file]

Then I CTRL+Z and undo it back to the original size.

Resize again, but uncheck the "maintain aspect ratio" box.

Enter 270 as the width value, 192 as the height value, and save s_tiles_[name of file]

Unless your stuff is pretty detailed (or has text), this should serve you pretty well.
Also helps to paste the new stuff on a new layer so you can see how to line it up.
Remember to save to the appropriate scenario folder, or it will copy over the original game file.

Thanks for that Red. May speed up tile mods a bit.

Cheers
