Movement Arrows have Disappeared
Movement Arrows have Disappeared
A it says. I have been happily playing TOAW IV on my new (NUC) Computer for weeks but, suddenly, the red movement arrows (i.e. showing the movement cost per hex and route) have disappeared. This is on both the Steam version AND a newly re-downloaded Matrix version.
I have completely deleted the Steam game twice and rebooted. Makes no difference.
The weird thing is that on my old Desktop with EXACTLY the same game settings the arrows are still there in both the Steam and stab alone Matrix versions.
Any ideas?

Nah.
These are stock standard installs with nothing changed (I noticed that menu option and it was exactly as shown when I checked it ... ).
And it applies to one installed as a Steam game and another installed from a brand new download from Matrix (again, with no changes from stock) ... and THIS was the first time I had installed the non-Steam version to the NUC.

Re: Movement Arrows have Disappeared
Does the unit move when the target hex is clicked on - regardless of no arrows? Do you get the movement popup if there are two or more units in the start hex?

Re: Movement Arrows have Disappeared
Even if the arrows do not show, do the movement cost numbers still appear? I’ve found that the arrows tend to obscure units and terrain, preferring to just see the numbers. Obviously, this doesn’t solve the problem, but if the movement numbers are still visible it gives you an alternative.

Re: Movement Arrows have Disappeared
Yes, the unit(s) move ... and, yes, I get asked if I want to do a group move if more than two are in a hex.
No, the Movement Costs/Numbers do not appear either.
So I am effectively moving blind with no idea of the movement costs or even how far I can move.

What is the path to them - compared to the path to the .exe?
This has to be a path issue.

Are you running a desktop shortcut to that Opart 4.exe? If so, try double-clicking on that file directly from the File Explorer.aspqrz02 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 3:54 am STEAM Version

Tried it both ways from Desktop Icon and from File Explorer ... for BOTH the Matrix download/PC and Steam versions.
Made no difference.

Try copying the arrow and number graphics into the Graphics Override folder.

Have you tried all three zoom levels?
Re: Movement Arrows have Disappeared
From 2d Huge to 2d Ultra Tiny and both levels of 3d.
Nothing changes.

Re: Movement Arrows have Disappeared
Any kind of anti-virus running that you could turn off?
Re: Movement Arrows have Disappeared
Thanks for the suggestions. I suspect that this may be unresolvable and may be specific to the hardware/software combination on my NUC (though why it worked for weeks and then suddenly stopped with no obvious cause such as Windows updates etc is a mystery).
I would really have preferred to have this one program work on my NUC but the fact that it works on my older Desktop means I can still enjoy the game ... I originally got the NUC mainly because my old PC (running Windows 10 and not upgradeable) was having problems handling the large DTP/Graphics files I mainly use it for and the NUC had four times the memory and has no such problems ... it was just a bonus that it runs all the Matrix/Steam games I play in my not so copious free time.
Since I have a KVM setup I can switch between the two rigs at, literally, the press of a button, so I can live with it.
Maybe in another 3-4 years when I upgrade again it will work on that machine.
