Testing Soviet's defense in 1941

Post by Cpl GAC »

From a discussion in another thread - using Soviet infantry on Tactical Reserve (units from Road to Moscow III)

Situation 1 - A German infantry division assaulting with an artillery brigade on T and Soviet's 2nd line division is on T also;

Germans do not get the hex (and, you'll see both sides have fewer losses);

Soviet losses - on T.png

Next you will see both Soviet divisions on D

Both sides lose more men and the Germans get the hex;

I removed as many variables as I could - air support, prior turn dug in, Germans unit had to advance one hex each time.

You don't tell us how many rounds each battle took. With a unit in tactical reserve the Germans didn't advance into the hex. Also there's some randomness added in fairly every combat.

Yes - there is randomness - in one you can see the Soviet gained a point of defense although I didn't do anything differently.

Regarding the rounds - I ran them both again - this time Gerry didn't advance into the vacated hex but overall the same.

Yes I'd run the cases ten times or so (easy to do with reloading the save) and average the results. Moreover this scenario (a 1-1 frontal attack) isn't super realistic.
