Ammo for only one fire phase in the Training scenario 2 ?

Post by Dorisia »

I don't know if I missed something or if did something wrong, but I can fire the US AT gun in the second Training scenario just in one fire phase - then there is a message "no more HE available"

Is there a possibility to reload the gun or refresh the ammo for an ordnance piece ?

Can't find anything about ammo level in the manual or on the Internet.

So I'd like to know, how I can check the amount of ammo (HE/AP/Smoke/WP) an gun or tank or whatever is carrying and if it is possible to refresh the ammo somehow.

Started TotH some weeks ago (after have it slumbering on my harddrive for years) and I like it a lot.
But not knowing if I am doing something wrong or missing a piece of information OR if this is a limitation/feature of the game drives me mad.

Thanks and regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,

Once an ordnance runs out of specific ammo type, that's it...there is no resupply capability. You need to restart that scenario.

Section 8.2.3 Ordnance of the manual, gives you more information about nationality ordnance that are used in the game.

I hope that helps...

Cheers,

Thank you Peter for the hint with teh appendix of the manual.

But even there is no info of the ammo capacity of a vehicle or ordnance.

And I think it is weird, that you have an ordnance in a scenario which should you teach the handling of an ordnance and all the gun can do is fire once and then serving as a german fire magnet.

There should be enough HE for the gun to fire on the infantry only enemy units more than once in this scenaria.

If there is no wa of reloading or replenishing the ammo, then it looks like a flaw in the scenario design.

Thanks and regards,
Martin

This game is based off of ASL and like in ASL (as almost all tactical wargames) there is no ammo reload. Basically in ASL its called fate, when things like ammo runs out, HMG/MMG's or ordnance (both on and off AFV) breakdown, once that happens your out of luck with that HMG/MMG, or ordnance. There is no resupply in ASL or most all tactical level wargames.

It happenes everytime I play the scenario.
Seems like I have more luck in love than in gambling :)

I edited the scenario and replaced the AT gun with a Pack Howitzer and now the gun can fire every turn.

It is the limitation of the AT gun - it seems to have only a limited amount of HE against infantry (and runs dry after the first fire phase), but a normal load of AP against vehicles.
Because there are only grunt units in the scenario the gun isn't able to use his AP against them.

IMHO it is a weird decision to place an AT gun in this scenario, but it looks like all ist working as intended.

The more I play and try this game, the more I like it !

Thanks for all of your advice !

Martin,

I believe it was my friend Jorgen that designed the tutorial scenario, he put the AT gun there for a reason; just my humble opinion ;) By having an AT gun there it teaches you about other things...like, things don't always go as you want them to :)

I think you are right.

This seems to be the intention of this scenario.
For a TotH noob/beginner it makes no sense at first, but when you play scenario 3 then it all makes sense.

I'm playing Lock 'n Load Tactical Digital and Valor&Victory, but TotH is a moregripping game than the other two even with the "outdated" graphics (which dosn't bother me at all).

Please tell your friend Jorgen, that he did a good job with the scenario - it makes the player think about the whole thing and how the different components are interlocked/connected.

I'm pretty impressed !
